The island's pristine beaches are undoubtedly its main attraction, offering miles of soft, white sand and clear, warm waters. Visitors can enjoy a variety of beach activities, from sunbathing and swimming to fishing and kayaking. The relatively uncrowded beaches provide a sense of seclusion and an ideal setting for families, couples, and solo travelers to unwind.
For golf enthusiasts, Pawleys Island is a slice of heaven with its numerous championship golf courses set against the backdrop of the stunning Lowcountry landscape. These courses are not only challenging but also boast scenic views that make a day on the links a memorable experience.
The island's rich history is reflected in its well-preserved antebellum homes and historic sites. The Pawleys Island Historic District offers a glimpse into the past, with homes dating back to the 18th century. These historic structures, built on stilts to protect against flooding, add to the island's unique character and charm.
Nature lovers will appreciate the area's abundant wildlife and natural beauty. The nearby Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens provide opportunities to explore local flora and fauna. The state park is a haven for birdwatchers, while Brookgreen Gardens, with its impressive collection of American sculpture and sprawling botanical gardens, is a cultural highlight.
