The centerpiece of Folly Beach is its expansive shoreline, which stretches for six miles, offering plenty of space for sunbathing, swimming, and beachcombing. The Folly Beach Pier, extending more than 1,000 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, is a prime spot for fishing, strolling, and capturing panoramic views of the coastline.
Surfing is one of the top draws at Folly Beach, with the Washout being the most renowned spot for catching waves. This area is known for some of the best surf on the East Coast, making it a magnet for surfers of all skill levels. For those new to the sport, local surf shops offer lessons and equipment rentals.
Nature enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, from kayaking and paddleboarding in the calm waters of the Folly River to bird watching and wildlife spotting at the Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve.
