TIPS
To get around and walk along Lake Como, especially in the small towns, it is necessary to wear comfortable shoes.
There are many public drinking water fountains in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also drinkable. You can bring your refillable bottle!
If you are looking for a relatively easy hike in the area and still want to enjoy the mountain views, the Greenway of Lake Como is an easy-to-follow trail that connects the lakeside towns from Colonno to Griante, passing through Ossuccio. Look for Greenway signs in the area.
In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services close at midday, so plan your shopping accordingly.
Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those who wish to swim, however, there are some options. Nearby, there is the Lido di Ossuccio and Lido di Lenno. In other small towns, there are more little beaches and lakefront bars. The Lido di Bellagio and the pebble beach of San Giovanni await those who want to travel and explore the beautiful town of Bellagio. Locals and visitors also love to visit Nesso, where the bravest swimmers can jump into the lake from the old Roman bridge near the waterfall.
Lake Como is located in a mountainous region. The surrounding Pre-Alps may not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains, and temperatures can change rapidly. Pay special attention to the weather conditions during hikes and bring warm and waterproof clothing!
