Nestled on 9+ private acres on Little Pisgah Mountain, retro charm and contemporary style converge at this original Mid-Century Modern “Deck House.” The home embraces many of the design’s signature features, including an open floor plan, mahogany trim, a hand-routed waffle door, expansive windows, and sliding doors with screens. From the vibrant color palette and abstract local expressionist art unique to each space, to the eclectic light fixtures and high-quality craftsmanship, you’ll instantly feel inspired by the innovative style of this inviting mountain oasis.
In the morning, settle into the Adirondack chairs on the upper wraparound deck to watch the sunrise as you sip coffee and listen to the songs of native birds. On rainy days, hear the tranquil rush of nearby mountain streams, and on windy ones, the gentle whistle through the rhododendrons. After coffee, wander the wooded mountain terrain on the property’s walking paths that wind around the house and up the hillside before returning for breakfast at the kitchen bar. Thoughtfully supplied and stocked, the sleek gourmet kitchen includes a waffle maker and Vitamix, perfect for making waffles and fruit smoothies for your group. Boasting a Dog Cubby with two bowl sets and toys, your pup can enjoy their own special space while you cook. After breakfast, carve out time to work on projects at the desk in the main living room or keep up with your workout routine in the compact home gym.
Retro Metro Deck House is located 20 minutes from the quaint towns of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and 15 minutes from Asheville, in the quiet community of Fairview, dotted with picturesque farmland. Hickory Nut Gap Farm is best known for its meat supply to Asheville’s farm-to-table restaurants and for its seasonal festivals and events. For more farm fun, visit sustainable Flying Cloud Farm, where you can treat yourself to a colorful U-pick bouquet of native flowers, veggies, greens, and fruits. Once you’ve had your fill of country charm, head into Asheville for shopping, dining, and the vibrant art scene that defines the mountains of Western North Carolina.
For area hiking, check out Bearwallow Mountain Trail, an easy one-mile hike that leads to a grassy meadow at the summit and features nearly 360° views, including Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. You’ll love strolling among wildflowers and picnicking alongside the grazing cattle that call this mountaintop home. After your hike, reward yourself with a cold beer from Whistlehop Brewing Co., which includes a family and pet-friendly playground and mini-golf. Then head over to Turgua Brewing, a unique farmhouse brewery beside Cane Creek, to listen to live music, sip on craft beers, meads, or ales, and enjoy food from local trucks.
In the evening, return home to read a book from the home’s library before preparing dinner using the gas grill and enjoying it at the live-edge dining table with panoramic woodland views. Afterward, grab chilled mixers from the beverage fridge and use the tools on the bar cart to craft a cocktail to enjoy by one of the two wood-burning fireplaces or around the glowing gas fire pit on the deck. Linger outside to stargaze or take a relaxing soak in the large hot tub before returning indoors to stream your favorite show or pop in one of the many DVDs. Stay up late playing foosball, Galaga retro arcade games, board games/card games, or enjoy a quiet night working on a puzzle with a glass of wine.
Note: This home IS dog-friendly with an additional fee. Sorry, this home is not cat-friendly due to common allergies. There is an exterior camera facing the driveway. While not required, 4WD/AWD is encouraged from December to March when icy and/or snowy road conditions are possible. There is a Kona 6-7 person hot tub off the lower deck. This home offers a whole-home generator that is also connected to the hot tub, so your vacation won’t be interrupted in the unlikely event of a power outage.
