Location:
The villa is beautifully located in the Carvoeiro area of the Algarve. A peaceful, traditional Portuguese resort town, Carvoeiro is perfect for families and those who love to be by the sea. The town is made up of whitewashed houses with pops of colour that cascades gently down sandstone cliffs. A fishing village called Ferragudo, which has many famous fresh fish restaurants, is just 1km from the holiday villa.
The area is known for its idyllic golden sand beaches – two of the beaches nearby are Praia Grande and Caneiros. A beautiful, hidden cove, Caneiros has a dramatic backdrop of ochre cliffside and dazzling azure sea. There is a popular restaurant nearby and sunbeds to relax on. Praia Grande has golden sand that stretches as far as the eye can see and a laid back ambience. Sea kayaking is a popular activity in the Algarve, as well as swimming and snorkelling.
Around the Algarve, there are a multitude of world-class golf courses, often by the beach or the lagoons. Golfers can enjoy the fresh sea air and amazing views as they check out legendary courses like Vale do Lobo, which was designed by British golfer Henry Cotton.
The Golden Triangle of the Algarve is home to many luxury resorts and picturesque places. Take a gentle drive to gorgeous Almancil and soak up some culture at the Church of São Lourenço – its white exteriors hide an array of amazing blue azulejo tiles inside. The Baroque church dates back to 1730. Nearby, the cultural centre houses a variety of art exhibitions and often hosts musical performances.
Take a boat trip to go dolphin spotting, an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The dolphins are curious and interested in humans, so sometimes up to 50 of the wild mammals can be seen. Some companies even bring a marine biologist, so guests can learn all about the dolphins.
Another area to explore nearby is Vilamoura, a resort town with a beautiful marina full of million-dollar yachts and many fine restaurants. Boat trips can be taken around the Algarve from here. Sample some Portuguese fare such as Caldeirada, a seafood stew made from white fish, oily fish and local clams and mussels. Caldo Verde, a healthy and hearty soup made from collard greens, fried potatoes, eggs and parsley is a tasty choice. Finish it all with some pastels de nata, the famous egg custard tarts dusted with cinnamon.
