Puerto de la Cruz is home to Jardin Botanico, a magnificent botanical garden with plants from all over the world, including roses, tropical and subtropical plants, palms, herbs and a giant 200 year old Australian Moreton Bay fig. It was established in 1788. La Laguna Old Town is close to Santa Cruz and is considered to be the cultural capital of the island. It is an important historical centre, a real step back in time with elegant buildings from the 15th-17th century. It features fine palaces, many churches and various religious buildings. One of the loveliest squares is Plaza del Adelantado, home to the town hall and a convent. Plaza del Crito boasts a lively market selling flowers and produce. La Orotava is another beautiful town which is worth visiting.
