Trulli, cicale e olive is an exceptional villa, where you will feel fully at peace with the surroundings, the epitome of an authentic Puglia holiday and the perfect sanctuary to completely disconnect from the hubbub of everyday life.
Every part of the Trulli, cicale e olive has been authentically restored, from inside out. Ensconced in a hectare of olive and fruit trees, some at least a century old. The grounds surrounding the trulli are an oasis of tranquillity.
The Location
Trulli, cicale e olive is found in a peaceful countryside location, 3 km from the beautiful town of Ceglie Messapica, near Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca, and just 20 minutes for the Adriatic coast and 40 minutes for the Ionian coast.
The Grounds
The rich red soil remains uncovered and in addition to over 50 olive trees - some of which are centuries old, there are fig trees, cherry trees, almond trees, pear trees, plums and quinces.
Delightful terraces wrap around the unusually large and dreamy salt water swimming pool with a lovely sun shelf, which we call the beach at its shallow end.
It’s the perfect spot for small children to splash around safety. The swimming pool is open from mid-April until mid-October; it is possible to request to bring forward the opening and/or postpone the closing with an extra cost of €200.
Gazebos have been installed on the terraces where you can shelter from the sun, enjoy a massage or practice yoga. There is an ancient outdoor oven which is perfect for baking bread, pizza, focaccia or roasting meat. Try it out yourself or book a pizza making workshop or personal chef and learn how to cook outdoors Puglia-style.
For children, we have created a playzone within a small trullo - originally a hunting outpost, and a synthetic grass area for sports and outdoor fun.
At the back of the trullo there is a wonderful open-air hot water shower.
There is external video surveillance.
The Interior
The renovation of Trullli, cicale e olive was four years in the making, Most of the work was carried out by hand. We hired only local workers, all who are trullari masters.
The interior is incredibly spacious. This was a must for large families and groups of friends.
We commissioned celebrated design company Lago to furnish the trullo and together we created an interior that perfectly combines modern design with an authentic flavour.
Contemporary pieces sit side by side with antique furnishings; underfloor heating was installed by carefully lifting the original floor and replacing it, and we transformed the trullo’s original doors into shutters, including the original locking mechanism.
All perfectly restored for you to enjoy during your 21st century stay.
Living & Dining
Most of your stay will be spent outdoors where there are several relax and chill zones, as well as a beautiful outdoor dining area.
Inside, there is a stunning custom-made kitchen which is open-plan to a dining area.
The bespoke design was hand-created by local craftsmen to replicate a kitchen from Puglia’s past. It’s hard not to imagine bread dough being pummelled with rosemary and salt on the dining table, the mouthwatering smells of something delicious bubbling away on the stove.
Sleeping Arrangements
Our three unique bedrooms sleep up to seven guests.
The main bedroom is located in the main trullo, connected with the living area, and features an exquisite Lago-designed bed with crystal legs and an original fireplace. It has an ensuite bathroom with walk in shower.
Bedroom two is located in the ancient lamia where grapes were pressed. The grape juice flowed into a cistern which is today covered by ornamental glass. A king-size bed designed by Lago is suspended with an exceptional backdrop mural created in lime and stencil. The effect is like embroidery inspired by the linen made by local grandmothers.
Bedroom three is furnished with a double bed and a sofa bed. In ancient times, residents slept in the alcoves of the trullo nestled in the small trulli at the side of the main cone. You’ll find your comfortable bed in the same alcove position.
These two bedrooms are in a separate building and shares a second bathroom with wak in shower.
There are two sofa beds in the living room that are two further single beds for additional guests. Here there is the third bathroom, again with walk in shower.
And let’s not forget the open-air shower, which connects you with nature and cools you down on a warm sunny afternoon..
