Access is very easy with Edinburgh airport 30 minutes to the south and the highlands immediately to the north. Famous golf courses in the Kingdom of Fife are also close by and there are lots of castles & gardens to explore in the area. Whether you are an art lover or not, this Palladian mansion offers a wonderful collection of Scottish portraiture. Pictures of previous owners of the house through the centuries are part of this important collection, along with other well known Scottish sitters and artists, including Raeburn and Ramsay. Following the detailed restoration and the classically designed enhancements, the original features, columns and stone floors remain. Scotland is famous for it’s whiskey and the house has an extensive Whiskey Library for guests to enjoy. There is an array of sensational whiskys to discover with magnificent aromas and flavours of one of Scotland’s most well known assets to enjoy.
DESCRIPTION
Driving through the majestic gates the hustle and bustle of every day life is left behind. The long, beautifully kept drive, leads up to the grand entrance at the front of the house. The large entrance hall is bright, welcoming and friendly in spite of the history and grandeur that seeps out of every stone. The various reception rooms have all been beautifully designed and furnished and have a homely warmth to them. Each bedroom and bathroom has been individually crafted and many have unbeatable views over Loch Leven and the castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned for 11 months. One of the bathrooms has exquisite, original wallpaper created from a photograph of ducks flying off Loch Leven.
In addition to the 14 magnificent bedrooms in the main house there are a further 10 double bedrooms in the adjacent Coach House which are available on request and at an additional cost. The Estate can accommodate up to a total of 48 people.
There is a Spa situated on the estate which is available for guests to use.
STAFF & CATERING (NO SELF-CATERING)
The house is fully staffed and guests will be looked after with the true warmth of good traditional Scottish hospitality. With breakfast included in the price, additional catering will be organised for guests to suit their requirements from good country house food to gourmet, Michelin Star cuisine. Fine wines and other specialist liqueurs can be arranged for special dinners or parties as well as other wines and spirits. There is formal dining for up to 32 guests under a stunning painted ceiling in the dining room and the Grand Salon can entertain 100 guests.
ACTIVITIES
There are many activities available on the estate such as cycling, archery, falconry and clay pigeon shooting and a variety of country sports available nearby. Golf can be played on two courses just two minutes walk from the house and also at the nearby championship courses of Gleneagles and St Andrews. There is also motor sport at the Knockhill Circuit. The house has beautiful formal walled gardens and a cricket pitch.
