The town's proximity to Moosehead Lake is one of its main attractions. The lake, with its crystal-clear waters, offers a multitude of recreational activities such as fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The lake is also a prime spot for spotting the majestic moose in its natural habitat, especially during a serene dawn or dusk.
For those who love hiking and mountain biking, the surrounding area is crisscrossed with trails that range from leisurely walks to challenging climbs. The nearby Big Moose Mountain provides hikers with rewarding panoramic views of the lake and the vast forested landscape. The nearby B-52 crash site on Elephant Mountain serves as a somber but intriguing historical landmark.
The town itself exudes a charming, small-town atmosphere with local shops, cozy inns, and restaurants that serve up hearty New England fare.
