This beautiful 18th century bastide is situated in the charming hillside of Chateauneuf, next to Valbonne. This holiday villa has been carefully restored into a contemporary farmhouse while still maintaining its original charm and cultural history.
This manor was owned by Simone Beck, a close friend of Julia Child and M.F.K Fischer. Julia Child was a regular guest at the property where she and Simone hosted many gatherings together. It was time spent at this bastide that prompted Julia to buy her own villa in the South of France, which happened to be the property just next door.
Nestled on a terraced hillside, the home is set on 3 hectares of land in the scenic countryside only minutes from some of the region’s most picturesque villages – Valbonne, Mougins, Opio, and Grasse – you’ll quickly discover why Julia Child decided to call this place home!
Today the villa offers 5 bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, a professional kitchen, a heated infinity pool, a summer kitchen and pétanque court. This Provençal stone villa offers a peaceful and luxurious setting with beautiful views over rolling hills, the village of Plascassier and the olive tree groves surrounding the property.
The bastide has an open living plan featuring a large living and dining area with a wood-burning fireplace, a separate TV lounge room, and a professional kitchen that is the center piece of the home with its beautiful fusion of wood and iron. The interior spaces are bright with natural sunlight and are nicely decorated with comfortable and elegant Provençal furniture along with some eclectic pieces that add to the vibrancy and depth of the home. With the kitchen, living, and dining areas opening onto various terraces, this luxurious retreat really allows guests to live both indoors and outdoors. The terrace off the kitchen is shaded by a lovely pergola and is a wonderful area for al-fresco dining both night and day.
This property is ideal as a peaceful retreat yet allows you to have the close proximity to excellent open air markets, 10 different golf courses, and the sandy beaches of Cannes and Antibes, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

About the area
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, nestled in the heart of Provence, France, is a destination that offers a delightful blend of historical charm and world-renowned viticulture. This picturesque village is synonymous with the production of some of the finest wines in the world, making it a pilgrimage site for oenophiles and casual wine enthusiasts alike.
The village's name, which translates to "New Castle of the Pope," harks back to the 14th century when the papacy was relocated to nearby Avignon. The ruins of the castle that once served as a summer residence for the popes still stand, offering visitors a glimpse into the region's storied past and panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and the Rhône Valley.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape's reputation, however, is primarily built on its exceptional wines. The appellation's unique terroir, characterized by large pebbles known as "galets" that retain heat and release it during the night, contributes to the distinctive quality of the wine. Visitors can tour numerous wineries and cellars, engage in tastings, and learn about the meticulous wine-making process that goes into each bottle.
Beyond the vineyards, the village itself exudes a rustic charm with its stone houses, quaint streets, and local artisan shops. The area's gastronomy complements its wines, with a range of dining options that serve Provencal cuisine made from fresh, local ingredients.
For those interested in expanding their cultural horizons, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is within easy reach of Avignon, a city rich with history and home to the Palais des Papes, one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. The region also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating everything from wine to art and history.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the scenic beauty of the Provencal countryside, ideal for hiking, cycling, or simply enjoying a leisurely picnic among the vineyards. The nearby Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail offer more challenging terrain for adventurous hikers and breathtaking vistas.
In essence, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a destination that captivates the senses and the soul. It's a place where the legacy of the past is savored in every glass of wine and where the beauty of the present is enjoyed in the tranquility of the Provencal landscape. Whether you're seeking a gastronomic adventure, a historical journey, or a peaceful retreat, Châteauneuf-du-Pape promises an experience that is both enriching and unforgettable.
