Be Carried Away Into Vacation Bliss at Savannah Charm
What constitutes a perfect vacation? Is it the attractions and entertainment options? Perhaps it’s the cultural history and overall atmosphere of a destination that transforms a bland visit into an epic getaway. No matter what you demand in a vacation, all of us require one essential element: bliss.
Whether you’re looking for a quick weekend excursion with your loved one or an extended adventure with friends and family, there’s a historic coastal city guaranteed to delight. Savannah, GA., may sound familiar, but until you experience the eclectic atmosphere, delicious cuisines and historic charm of this well-preserved port city, it’s impossible to grasp the unique qualities of Savannah.
Where History Comes Alive - Savannah Charm
Savannah isn’t your standard historic city. While its popularity may seem new, this vibrant coastal area has played an important role in human development for over 400 years. Beloved by Native American tribes, specifically Guale, Choctaw and Creeks tribes, these lands served as vital hunting grounds and community centers. However, the city as we know it today began in 1733 by British philanthropist and Parliament member, General James Edward Oglethorpe.
As the oldest city in Georgia, Savannah has a rich history of going against the grain. In 1862, the nation’s first emancipation proclamation was given by Union General David Hunter. While President Lincoln revoked this act, historians believe this proclamation pressured Lincoln to give his infamous Presidential Emancipation Proclamation one year later. This is just one example how this distinguished coastal city marches to the beat of its own drum.
Nowadays, we can enjoy the fruits of this labor. With over 100 unique neighborhoods, beautiful public spaces and an eclectic vibe, it’s no wonder over 13 million visitors flock to this otherworldly place. While booking a trip to Savannah is an almost guaranteed good time, it’s not just coming to the city that makes a perfect vacation. Like any other major vacation spot, where you stay is what makes or breaks a trip.

About the area
Savannah, Georgia, is a delightful Southern city that provides a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. It is renowned for its beautifully preserved antebellum architecture and historic districts, making it a haven for those with an interest in history. The Historic District of the city is one of the largest in the U.S., characterized by cobblestone streets adorned with oak trees draped in moss and magnificent historic residences.
The city's River Street was once the world's bustling hub for cotton exports. Today, it has transformed into a lively waterfront area brimming with shops, galleries, and restaurants situated in former cotton warehouses. Here visitors can take pleasure in breathtaking views of the Savannah River while indulging in local cuisine or shopping for distinctive souvenirs.
The cultural offerings of Savannah are equally captivating. The Telfair Museums comprise three separate sites: the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences - one of the first public museums in the South; Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters; and Jepson Center - a contemporary art center. Collectively they provide an enriching journey through art and history.
For those who love nature, Savannah's beautiful parks and squares will not disappoint. Forsyth Park is particularly popular due to its iconic fountain while Bonaventure Cemetery offers a hauntingly beautiful landscape filled with sculptures and Victorian funerary art.
Savannah also provides several beach options for visitors to enjoy. Tybee Island is just a short drive from downtown Savannah offering sandy beaches ideal for sunbathing or swimming along with a historic lighthouse that offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

In summary, Savannah presents an engaging combination of historical allure, cultural richness, natural beauty and culinary delights making it an attractive destination for all kinds of travelers.
