Emplacement
Demi-Quartier is a commune in Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, bordering the prestigious resorts of Megève to the south and Combloux to the north.
Its name may derive from the crescent-moon shape of its territory, or more simply from the fact that it was part of a seigneury.
But this is not the only originality of Demi-Quartier: the parish was separated from Megève in the 18th century, but administrative links have been preserved.
For example, Demi-Quartier’s town hall is located on the territory of its neighbor, and the two towns are co-owners of Megève’s church and war memorial.
With a population of around 1,000, some of whom live in hamlets, Demi-Quartier has benefited from Megève’s development since the interwar years, when it became one of France’s most prestigious winter sports resorts. As a result, Demi-Quartier is home to a large number of hotels, while most of the ski-related activities are located in Megève.
