Home details
At the steam house, earthly colors, natural textures and simple elegance surrounded by a luxurious ambience, are a treat for all the senses.
Inside, the smooth plaster walls of the breezy rooms are Cycladic white with splashes of cheerful color, while the carefully selected antiques mingle with classic built-in traditional furniture, creating an idyllic setting. Outside, the stone brings serenity vibes to the private courtyard and the pool is silently calling for a cooling session after an adventurous day at the island. And after a magical sunset comes a perfect evening with a candlelit dinner near the fountain, under the starry sky, at your mood lightened home. Does it sound like a honeymoon? We think so.
At the turn of the century, this house operated as a “canava” a traditional winery and cellar, producing the Santorini signature sweet wine Vinsanto. Vinsanto is known all around the world and for centuries was among the island’s most lucrative businesses. In fact, before the Russian Revolution it was widely exported to Russia to be used as Holly Communion! Besides, the name its Venetian merchants gave it, comes from the word for wine, “vin” and the word for saint, “santo”.
At the steam house you can still see the sunken cylindrical troughs, used for Vinsanto’s distilling, now used as some beautiful lighting features. Although the house has been renovated, all the elements that tell the story of Santorini’s centuries of housebuilding tradition have been left untouched. Through the relics of this historic building, creative design and comfort emerged, creating a perfect accommodation experience that could please even the most demanding guest.

About the area
Pyrgos Kallistis, located on the enchanting island of Santorini, Greece, is a destination that captures the essence of Greek charm and beauty. This picturesque village is perched atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the island, the sparkling Aegean Sea, and the surrounding vineyards that produce the island's famous wines.
Travelers are drawn to Pyrgos for its well-preserved medieval architecture, with narrow winding streets, traditional white-washed houses, and blue-domed churches that create a postcard-perfect scene. The village is crowned by a Venetian castle, known as Kasteli, which is one of the five fortified settlements on the island. Exploring the ruins of this castle provides not only a glimpse into the island's history but also some of the most breathtaking vistas in Santorini.
Pyrgos is also celebrated for its authentic Greek atmosphere, less crowded than the more tourist-heavy spots of Oia and Fira, yet brimming with local culture and tradition. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the village, stopping at quaint cafes and tavernas to sample traditional Greek dishes and the exquisite local wines.
For those interested in the spiritual heritage of the island, Pyrgos is home to several Byzantine churches, each with its own unique history and charm. The Monastery of Profitis Ilias, situated on the highest point of Santorini near Pyrgos, is a place of serenity and spiritual reflection, with a small museum showcasing ecclesiastical artifacts and offering yet another vantage point for stunning views.
During Easter, Pyrgos transforms into a spectacle of light, as thousands of candles are lit throughout the village, creating an ethereal glow that illuminates the night sky. This tradition is a highlight for many visitors, encapsulating the rich cultural tapestry of the village.
Art enthusiasts will find delight in the local galleries, where the works of Greek and international artists are on display. These art spaces often host exhibitions and cultural events that add to the village's vibrant artistic scene.
In essence, Pyrgos Kallistis is a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural beauty. It offers a more tranquil and authentic experience of Santorini, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the island's traditional way of life while enjoying all the scenic splendor that Santorini is renowned for.
