Bolder House brings modern design right up against Joshua Tree’s dramatic boulders. This three-bedroom retreat for six is made for spending time outdoors, with a saltwater pool, built-in hot tub, and three fire pits surrounded by rugged desert scenery. A detached primary suite gives guests room to spread out, while the extraordinary rock formations make even an afternoon at home feel like an escape. Designed by Wolfgang and Connie Pichler, Bolder House uses clean white architecture, expansive windows, and warm natural materials to let the surrounding landscape take center stage. Inside, a generous built-in sofa sits beneath a picture window filled with sunlit boulders, while wood cabinetry, textured furnishings, and an open kitchen and dining area give the home an easy, welcoming feel. Massive boulder formations rise around the home, creating a dramatic setting for afternoons by the long saltwater pool. Stretch out on the shallow Cabo deck with your feet in the water, swim a few laps, or settle into the built-in hot tub as the surrounding rocks take on the warmer colors of the evening. Three propane fire pits give you different places to gather. One sits on an elevated terrace beneath a minimalist white pergola, surrounded by boulders and comfortable seating. Another anchors a more intimate patio beside the house. Whether you’re catching up with friends or looking for a quiet place to sit, there’s no shortage of inviting spots outdoors. A separate dining patio and propane BBQ make meals outside part of the experience, with natural desert landscaping and expansive rocky views all around. The grounds retain their rugged character and are not fully fenced. -Living Area- The living room offers a welcome contrast to the dramatic landscape outside. A generous, built-in wraparound sofa fills the space, layered with comfortable pillows and soft textures that invite you to settle in. A large picture window frames the neighboring boulders so beautifully that the view feels like part of the room. It’s a natural gathering place for conversation, reading, or winding down with a movie on the TV after a day exploring Joshua Tree. Warm, understated furnishings keep the atmosphere relaxed without distracting from the scenery. -Kitchen and Dining- The bright, open kitchen pairs warm wood cabinetry with dark tile and countertops, creating a clean, contemporary space that still feels inviting. A generous island with barstools provides room to prepare meals, share breakfast, or keep the cook company. The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, cookware, and dining essentials. A nearby dining table brings everyone together for meals, whether you’re making a leisurely breakfast before heading into the park or preparing dinner to enjoy after an afternoon by the pool. For evenings when you’d rather stay outside, the propane BBQ and outdoor dining patio offer another way to gather and enjoy the desert surroundings. -Bedrooms and Bathrooms- Bolder House accommodates up to six guests across three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a layout that works especially well for couples or a small group wanting both togetherness and personal space. Two bedrooms are located in the main house, just off the living room, and share a bathroom. Their convenient arrangement keeps everyone close to the home’s central gathering spaces. The third bedroom is the primary suite, located in a detached casita immediately beside the main house’s front door. With its own ensuite bathroom, the casita offers a separate place to unwind while remaining just steps from the rest of the group. The home’s bathrooms feature clean, modern finishes, including a freestanding bathtub that offers a relaxing way to end the day. -Surrounding Area- Joshua Tree Village has cafés, shops and galleries, and Joshua Tree National Park is there for the days. Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown and La Copine make good nights out. The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies. A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed. The roads to Bolder House are dirt. Four-wheel drive is not necessary; just take it slow. -Property Boundary- Please look at the last photo of the listing, which shows the boundary of the property. -House-Specific Rules- ► Please keep music at a reasonable volume and turn it off by the start of quiet hours. ► No fee to heat the hot tub! Please rinse off before and after using the hot tub, and keep the lid on to keep out dirt and hold in heat. Absolutely no glass near the water. ► Weddings and events are by inquiry only and are subject to permits and applicable law. -Pool Heating Fee- Should you wish to have the pool heated to 85 degrees, please notify us in advance of your arrival, as there will be a supplemental charge per day for this service due to high fuel costs in this area. If you’d like the pool heated for multiple days, we ask that days be consecutive to conserve energy, thank you! Pool heating is not usually necessary May through September. Please note that we will need at least 24 hours’ notice to heat the pool. ► $350 for the first day and $200 for the second day During the winter months, please be aware that colder outdoor temperatures may cause the pool to feel cooler than its maintained temperature of 85°F. We kindly ask that you ensure this temperature meets your comfort level before submitting a request, as refunds cannot be issued on this basis. -Pool and Hot Tub Service- The pool and hot tub are serviced Mondays and Thursdays, approximately between 9am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician’s busy schedule. He will not approach the house but will go directly through to the backyard. -Pet Policy- We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed. -Local Experiences- We’ve handpicked an incredible selection of local vendors to enhance your Joshua Tree stay, offering a mix of relaxation, adventure, and everything in between. Many services can come directly to the house, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable stay! -Wildlife & Safety- The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it’s important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert. -Security Camera- For your security, there is one exterior camera facing the driveway, which monitors vehicles and occupancy. There are no cameras inside the home, in the back of the property or facing any private areas, including the pool and hot tub areas. -Cell Service- Cell phone reception at the property is limited and varies by carrier.
