ABOUT THE AREA
Nestled on Tahoe’s beautiful North Shore, Kings Beach is known for its outstanding public beach, laid-back atmosphere, and easy access to both year-round recreation and nearby mountain resorts. It’s the kind of place travelers return to year after year for its small-town charm and unbeatable location.
At the heart of the community is the Kings Beach State Recreation Area, the flagship beach site on the North Shore. Spanning 1,700 feet of sandy shoreline, it’s the largest public access beach on Lake Tahoe. With its south-facing exposure and a lake bottom that gradually deepens, this stretch of shoreline is also one of the warmest swimming areas on the lake—perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply wading into the clear waters. Families will love the lakefront playground, picnic areas, and barbecue facilities, while the adjacent downtown strip offers coffee shops, casual eateries, and local boutiques just steps from the sand. The North Tahoe Event Center further adds to the community vibe, hosting concerts, festivals, and cultural gatherings throughout the year.
In the winter months, Kings Beach becomes an ideal home base for skiers and snowboarders. You’re just a 10-minute drive from Northstar California Resort, where nearly 100 trails, 3,000 skiable acres, world-class grooming, and incredible tree skiing await. Families and groups can also take advantage of cross-country trails, terrain parks, a youth Adventure Park, and Northstar’s lively village featuring shops, restaurants, fire pits, and a 9,000-square-foot ice skating rink.
Whether you’re chasing long summer days at the lake or fresh powder in the winter, Kings Beach offers the perfect balance of relaxation, recreation, and authentic Tahoe spirit.
