The panoramic mountain views are simply stunning, and the colors from the sunrise to sunset even more so. It is a ten minute drive from the cosmopolitan town of Agios Nikolaos, an all time classic seaside resort, attracting thousands of visitors every year. The lake, the town’s jewel, is known for its many legends, one of which narrates of the goddesses Athena and Artemis bathing in it. The lake connects through a narrow canal with the sea, and is surrounded by red rock formations and lush vegetation. A stroll amongst the shops is always a pleasure. Shops sell unique traditional Cretan art artifacts, copies from the local archaeological museums, jewellery, and impressive embroidery. They also sell local organic products and delicacies that dazzle everyone’s palate. The town is filled with modern coffee shops & restaurants that serve local dishes, fusion & international cuisine.
