Set on five acres of open Joshua Tree desert, this modern two-bedroom retreat revolves around a wraparound deck, a hot tub, and a seasonal cowboy pool. Spend afternoons in the sun, watch the sky change around the fire pit, and end the evening in a freestanding soaking tub overlooking the desert. The seasonal cowboy pool offers a refreshing place to cool off on sunny days, while the hot tub is especially inviting when the evening air turns crisp. Keep dinner casual with the propane BBQ, or take your drinks out to the Adirondack chairs surrounding the fire pit. With five acres of desert stretching around the house, there’s plenty of open sky to enjoy as the last light fades and the stars begin to appear. The cowboy pool is a stock-tank-style pool, not an in-ground swimming pool, and is drained and unavailable from November through March. The property is surrounded by natural desert terrain and is not fully fenced. -Living Area- The living room has a relaxed, contemporary feel, with curved cream sofas, soft textures, and a low wooden coffee table that lend warmth to the minimalist interiors. A long picture window draws your attention to the distant mountains, bringing the landscape into the room even when you’re curled up indoors. It’s a comfortable spot to unwind after exploring Joshua Tree, whether you’re catching up over a drink, reading in the afternoon light, or settling in with a movie on the smart TV. Split-system heating and air conditioning keep the space comfortable throughout the seasons. -Kitchen and Dining- The kitchen pairs black cabinetry with a marble-topped island and woven pendant lighting, creating an inviting place to gather while meals come together. Pull up a stool with your morning coffee, prepare breakfast before heading out, or enjoy a leisurely evening cooking at home. The fully stocked kitchen includes a coffee maker and the essentials for preparing meals. Nearby, a glass dining table sits beneath a woven pendant, with windows looking toward the mountains and sliding doors opening onto the deck. It’s an intimate setting for shared meals, with the option to step outside and enjoy the desert air whenever you like. -Bedrooms and Bathrooms- ShangriLa has two bedrooms, one furnished with a king bed and the other with a queen, offering comfortable accommodations for couples or a small group traveling together. The striking canopy bedroom features a black metal four-poster bed, soft neutral bedding, and glass patio doors that open directly to the deck. It’s a lovely space to wake up with the morning light and step outside before the day gets underway. The second bedroom offers a quieter, understated atmosphere, with bedside wall sconces, framed artwork, and comfortable bedding. The bedrooms share one beautifully appointed bathroom with a double vanity, walk-in shower, and freestanding soaking tub positioned beside a large window overlooking the desert. After a day outdoors, draw a bath and enjoy the changing light across the landscape, a peaceful way to end the evening without ever leaving the house. -Surrounding Area- ShangriLa is an easy drive from Joshua Tree Village and the Integratron, with La Copine in Flamingo Heights, Joshua Tree National Park’s West Entrance, and Pioneertown and Pappy & Harriet’s all within reach. Out on 5 acres, the nights are quiet and the stars are bright. The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies. A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed. ShangriLa is reached by dirt roads. Low-riding cars can make it if you follow the directions provided. -Cowboy Pool- The pool at ShangriLa is a cowboy pool, not an in-ground pool. The cowboy pool is drained and unavailable for guest use during the winter months (November through March) to prevent the filter from freezing and breaking. -House-Specific Rules- ► Please keep music at a reasonable volume and turn it off by the start of quiet hours. ► Please avoid using the hot tub immediately after it has been serviced, as chemical levels are higher than usual for a short time. Please rinse off oils and lotions before entering, keep the cover on when not in use, and no drinking in the hot tub, please. ► Weddings and events are by inquiry only and are subject to permits and applicable law. -Pool and Hot Tub Service- The hot tub and cowboy pool are serviced Wednesdays, approximately between 9am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician’s busy schedule. He will not approach the house but will go directly through to the backyard. -Pet Policy- We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed due to the owner’s severe allergy. -Local Experiences- We’ve handpicked an incredible selection of local vendors to enhance your Joshua Tree stay, offering a mix of relaxation, adventure, and everything in between. Many services can come directly to the house, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable stay! -Wildlife & Safety- The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it’s important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert. -Security Camera- For your security, there is an exterior camera located at the driveway, which monitors vehicles and occupancy. There are no cameras inside the home or facing any private areas, including the cowboy pool and hot tub areas. -Cell Service- Cell phone coverage is available at the property, though reception can vary by carrier. -Damage Waiver Policy- Each reservation requires either a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable damage waiver.
