Historic Kitty Hawk Cottage w/ Ocean Views
As an important part of Outer Banks history, the Coastal Cottage was originally built to stable horses for the Kitty Hawk Lifesaving station in the late 1800’s. The horses were used to transport life boats from the boat house to the water and back again when needed. In the mid 1950’s, the horse stable was lifted out of the sand and turned into a home, adding two bedrooms, a kitchen, bath, and screened porch at that time. Today, the entire building has undergone major renovations, additions and modernization all while maintaining the original patina of the historic stable. This home is truly unique, a perfect blend of modern historic comfort.
Still located exactly where it was originally constructed, the Coastal Cottage sits right on the West side of the beach road providing unobstructed ocean views that can be seen throughout the home on the middle and top level! The public beach access is just 175-feet away.
There is parking space for three vehicles in the driveway and covered parking beneath the carport. Unwind in the bubbly hot tub that sits shaded under the home, perfect for an afternoon soak after a long day of playing in the waves. An enclosed outdoor shower makes it easy to rinse all the sand off your feet. There are 2 points of dry-entry into the home, each up just a couple steps. Inside, a ground-level den features a large flat-screen TV with Full Surround Sound and Queen Sleeper Sofa for extra sleeping space with access to a convenient Full Bath with a Tub/Shower Combo. Kick back with your favorite tunes by connecting your phone to the Bluetooth Speakers on the back deck.
The living area on the main level features coastal décor, plenty of natural sunlight, exposed beams and beautiful hardwood floors that were once part of the original stable. Lounge on the comfortable furniture situated around the Fireplace to watch a movie on the Flat-Screen TV or relax in the sitting area to enjoy your favorite book with an ocean view. The modern kitchen has plenty of prep space, new stainless-steel appliances, an island bar with seating, and comes fully stocked for all of your cooking needs. You’ll also enjoy a convenient half bath and mid-level entry into the home through a spacious laundry room and rear sun deck. Adjacent to the living area is a large screened-in porch providing a great place for alfresco dining or enjoying the ocean breeze during a summer storm. The front deck is partially covered giving you the option to lay out in the sun or relax in the shade while staring out over the ocean. There are additional Bluetooth Speakers located in the living area and on the screened porch and deck.
On the main level, you will also find two bedrooms. The first bedroom features 2 Twin beds and has access to the full-sized Bathroom in the hall with shower only. The bath is also attached to the second bedroom; a cozy Queen Master with TV. Upstairs, two more Master bedrooms are available for a great night’s rest—a King Master with TV and Attached Full Bath w/ Double Vanity & Shower Only and another Queen Master with TV and Attached Full Bath w/ Shower. Plus, both bedrooms enjoy awesome ocean views!
