The university's presence infuses the town with youthful energy and provides numerous cultural and educational opportunities.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do in Blacksburg. While the Huckleberry Trail is not located directly in Blacksburg but rather in nearby Christiansburg, it remains a popular spot for biking and walking. The adjacent New River offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and tubing. The encompassing mountains provide beautiful hiking trails with breathtaking views.
While Blacksburg may not have an arts scene comparable to larger cities, it does have some art galleries and studios downtown as well as the Lyric Theatre, which hosts films and live performances.
