Wander down the hill and within around twenty minutes you will reach the sea alongside a selection of restaurants dotted around this area. The town of Sainte-Maxime is a lovely place to visit with its charming setting and pretty restaurants, as is Port Grimaud - take a boat trip to explore the canals and admire its interesting architecture. Both towns are also departing points for one of the summer boats to Saint-Tropez, an alternative to a water taxi and another good way to beat the Saint-Tropez traffic.
Of course, you will also want to spend time getting to know the former fishing village of Saint-Tropez, now well-known for its high-end restaurants and glitzy marina. There is still plenty of charm to be found, especially in its historic quarter and at its twice weekly Farmer’s market. The famous beach clubs of Pampelonne Beach, including Club 55, are just south of the town, around twenty-five minutes by car.
Some of the pretty hilltop villages of the Var can also be easily reached such as Ramatuelle (14km), Gassin (12km) and Grimaud (10km) or head further inland to enchanting places such as La Môle (18km), set in the Maures hills and forests, perfect for hiking, horse-riding and mountain biking.
The wilder La Croix-Valmer coastline is another fantastic area for keen walkers and nature lovers whether you are seeking dramatic cliff-top scenery or just idyllic coastal strolls and beachside restaurants.

About the area
Saint-Tropez, nestled on the French Riviera, is a dazzling destination that epitomizes luxury, glamour, and the quintessential Mediterranean lifestyle. This coastal town, once a humble fishing village, has transformed into a playground for the rich and famous, attracting visitors with its chic charm and vibrant atmosphere.
The allure of Saint-Tropez is multifaceted. Its picturesque old port, lined with colorful fishing boats and gleaming yachts, is the heart of the town. Here, visitors can stroll along the quayside, admiring the vessels and the waterfront cafes that offer prime people-watching spots. The port is also the stage for many of the town's events and regattas, adding to its lively character.
Art enthusiasts will find Saint-Tropez's artistic heritage captivating. The town has long been a muse for painters, including the post-impressionist Paul Signac, who helped put Saint-Tropez on the map as an artists' enclave. The Annonciade museum, housed in a 16th-century chapel, showcases a collection of works by Signac and other notable artists who were drawn to the town's unique light and scenery.
The beaches of Saint-Tropez are another major draw. Pampelonne Beach, a stretch of white sand and crystal-clear waters, is the most famous and offers a variety of beach clubs where one can indulge in sunbathing, water sports, or simply savor a cocktail with a view. The beach's vibrant scene is synonymous with the town's jet-set reputation.
For those seeking a taste of local culture, the Place des Lices is where town residents gather to play pétanque under the shade of plane trees. The market held here twice a week is a treasure trove of Provençal fabrics, fresh produce, and artisanal goods, perfect for those looking to take a piece of the region home.
Saint-Tropez's narrow cobblestone streets are lined with boutiques from high-end designers to local craftsmen, offering a shopping experience that ranges from the exclusive to the quaint. The town's dining scene is equally impressive, with an array of restaurants serving up fresh seafood and regional specialties, often paired with excellent local wines.
As the sun sets, Saint-Tropez's nightlife comes alive. The town boasts some of the most exclusive clubs on the Riviera, where the party continues until dawn. Yet, despite its reputation for glitz and glamour, Saint-Tropez manages to retain its Provençal charm and laid-back vibe, making it a destination that truly offers the best of both worlds.
