A bright house located in the heart of Ortigia, in the Jewish neighborhood called Giudecca. Casa Sophia has a typical Sicilian style with attention to detail and has always been linked to art. The flooring dates back to the early 1900s. It’s equipped with a private terrace and a balcony overlooking a classic alley. The house is very welcoming and provides every comfort. Ideal for those looking for an original and exclusive environment.
Casa Sophia is a traditional Sicilian two-floor style house with a sunny terrace overlooking the rooftops of Ortigia. Always related to art, this house was the home of a famous Sicilian painter at the beginning of the last century, and it was later inhabited by a restorer and now owned by a theatre director. Casa Sophia is recommended for guests looking for an original, exclusive and chaos-free environment. It is bright and located in a quaint alley, it consists of a large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and a classic small balcony overlooking the alley, a living room with a large and comfortable sofa bed, a bathroom and a kitchen with a dining area overlooking a courtyard. The flooring of the house dates back to the early 1900s. The terrace, perfect for lunches and dinners, is furnished with a table, chairs and an umbrella. With all its amenities, Casa Sophia can accommodate up to 4 persons. The famous Piazza Duomo is only 150 meters away. Its location allows guests to reach major sites with historical value within a few minutes of walking. Located approximately 200 meters away from the sea, it is also extremely close to the beautiful Church of St. John the Baptist, known as “San Giovannello” , the old Jewish baths, the Puppet theatre, bars, shops, restaurants, the shuttle stop, a supermarket, a bakery and much more.

About the area
The house is located precisely in the ancient Jewish neighborhood of Ortigia known as Giudecca, which is one of the most historic communities of the island. In this location there are many sacred Christian buildings that were constructed above ruins of synagogues and underground dungeons. Many of the buildings in this location are characterized by mixed architectural styles. For instance, the Sicilian Baroque and the Hebrew Israelite styles, with elements that go back to the Medieval and Renaissance periods. These architectural styles are also demonstrated throughout the narrow alleyways and winding streets that make up the Giudecca neighborhood. One of the most attractive places is the Jewish Baths that are located 20 meters below ground level. There you will discover purification basins, where fresh water still flows today. In the near vicinity you can savor some of the tastiest foods the island has to offer. If your appetite calls for mouthwatering typical Sicilian specialties, I highly recommend Oinos, Le Vin de l'Assassin Bistrot and Locanda Maniace restaurants. All are located within a 5-10 minute walk from the house where you can enjoy a clean and relaxing atmosphere. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something light, such as; delicious appetizers and an amazing selection of local wines, just around the corner 2 minutes away you will find Taverna Giudecca.
