Situated in the heart of Båstad, often called ”Sweden’s Riviera,” Villa Dagmar stands as a beacon of elegance, history, and luxury. This magnificent estate, with nearly 600 square meters of living space and an expansive 12,000 square meter plot that extends down to the beachfront promenade, blends historical charm with modern opulence and absolute privacy.
Built in 1914 during the tumultuous years of World War I, Villa Dagmar was the vision of businessman Karl Bergsten, who sought to gift his wife, Dagmar, with the most beautiful house imaginable. Inspired by Renaissance palaces such as Villa d’Este near Rome and Axel Munthe’s San Michele on Capri, the villa was meticulously designed by renowned architects and crafted by skilled local artisans. Over the course of four years, one of northern Europe’s most striking private residences emerged on the scenic shores of Båstad.
Villa Dagmar quickly became a social hub for Stockholm’s upper elite in the 1930s. Its lush English gardens and grand halls hosted everything from lavish weddings to intimate gatherings with King Gustav V, a close family friend who frequently spent his summers at the villa.
Today, Villa Dagmar remains timeless, having undergone a sensitive restoration at the turn of the millennium. For the first time in its illustrious history, this exclusive property is available as a luxury vacation rental for those seeking the pinnacle of elegance and comfort. Guests will enjoy a variety of exquisite amenities, including a private tennis court and a stunning garden. The villa is only 500 meters from Båstad’s most popular sandy beach and the charming marina, which hosts some of the region’s finest restaurants, paddle and tennis courts, as well as the famed Peppes nightclub and centercourt where the Nordea Open takes place.
Additionally, Villa Dagmar is located near Hotell Skansen, which offers an exceptional spa with massage services and a historic bathhouse on a pier, accessible by foot from the villa in a bathrobe. From the marina, guests can also take a ferry to Hallands Väderö, where they can swim with seals, dive among fish, or enjoy fishing and a sailing school for children.
Directly in front of the villa is a hiking and cycling path that is part of the Skåneleden trail, which winds around the Bjäre Peninsula, offering breathtaking views of the region.
Villa Dagmar offers a rare opportunity to experience a slice of Swedish history while indulging in the finest luxuries. Whether lounging by the garden, strolling through the manicured grounds, or hosting intimate gatherings in its grand rooms, Villa Dagmar promises a summer retreat like no other. It seamlessly combines timeless beauty with contemporary luxury and complete privacy in the heart of Båstad’s renowned summer paradise.
