Location:
Val d’Isère is a picture-perfect Savoyard resort, set at the edge of the Vanoise National Park in a spectacular Alpine valley. Blending rustic charm with world-class skiing, it offers a characterful historic centre, chocolate-box chalets, boutique shopping, and a lively après-ski scene. The resort is linked with Tignes to form the renowned Espace Killy ski area, one of Europe’s most extensive and snow-sure regions.
With altitudes ranging from 1850 to 3400 metres, and access to the Grande Motte glacier, Val d’Isère offers reliably excellent snow conditions across 300 km of pistes. The legendary Face de Bellevarde black run, with its dramatic 915-metre descent, sits alongside gentle nursery slopes and quiet areas for beginners. Families are well catered for, with zones like Valkids and Valpark, plus excellent ski schools and flexible pass options, including pedestrian and family passes.
Surrounding the bustling high street are charming hamlets such as Le Cret, Le Joseray, and La Legettaz. For non-skiers or those taking a break from the slopes, a wide network of accessible lifts provides panoramic views and opportunities for memorable lunches in the mountains. Key lifts such as the Solaise gondola, Olympique cable car, and Bellevarde chairlift are open to pedestrians too.
Beyond the slopes, Val d’Isère delivers an atmospheric après experience, from its 17th-century church and cobbled streets to buzzing bars, gourmet restaurants, and iconic venues like La Folie Douce and Cocorico. The resort also offers luxury spas, a modern leisure centre, and plenty of activities for children.
In summer, the landscape transforms into a haven for hikers and cyclists, with trails that wind through alpine meadows and into the protected wilderness of the Vanoise National Park, making Val d’Isère a year-round destination.
