The home celebrates the flora of the mountains in its layout, design and decor, bringing it into the spaces through openable glass walls in all spaces, gorgeous botanical wall tapestries, floral motifs in the soft furnishings, the lush indoor greenery, and wall art.
From the living room or your bedroom, slide away the floor-to-ceiling French doors completely for uninterrupted views of the Nilgiris. Or stretch out in the running sit-out that spans the house and lose track of time as you watch the mist roll over the hills.
Enjoy a tasty meal at the grand dining table placed within a beautiful cast-iron white pergola that transports you into an English garden. On a warm summer day, with the doors open, you actually feel like you are sitting outside.

STORY OF BLUSHING ROSE
An artist never knows their next muse until they find it.
Blushing Rose found its inspiration from a chance visit to the Sacred House Hotel during a holiday in Turkey. Captivated by the Turkish home’s Brocante design, Blushing Rose’s owner immediately began ideating a property in a similar style on a plot she owned near Coonoor.
As the design was underway, her personal tastes as one of India’s best-known soft furnishings designers drew her towards a French countryside style, rather than the Greek design that Sacred House followed. This led her to infuse French-style vintage furniture with the soft, pastel shades of the English countryside.
During construction, a challenge emerged: The plot had no space for a garden. But, having grown up in the Nilgiris, the owner knew that no home could do the area justice without the outdoors. So, if no space was available outside, she decided she would have to bring the outdoors inside. Potted greenery began to decorate the interiors, extended further by the living room’s wallpaper and the fresco in the Rose Bedroom. She also added French doors that slide away completely, providing an unobstructed view of the Nilgiris landscape from every room.
Though the house now shares little similarity with its muse, the cast-iron pergola that borders the dining space represents the confluence of its original inspiration and what it grew into. Stepping inside this typical garden element brings you back to the Sacred House while inviting you to take in the flowering house around you. A house overflowing with its owner’s passion, this is a true Blushing Rose.

HOME TRUTHS
- Blushing Rose is a two-level property, and the homeowners reside in the upper level. Guests are welcome only on the lower level.
- Smoking is not permitted inside the house anywhere due to safety and odour restrictions. Please use the ashtrays provided in the outdoor spaces.
- The home is BYOB-friendly, so do carry your favourite beverages from home. The Nilgiris does not have a good choice of quality spirits and wines.
- Blushing Rose is a footwear-free zone. Please use personal indoor footwear inside the house.
- We welcome older children into Blushing Rose, strictly ages 11 and above.
- The wall that surrounds the running sit-out is low and stands before a long drop. Please exercise caution on the sit-out for your safety.
- The Nilgiris faces an acute water shortage, especially during the dry seasons. Do use water prudently – a little consciousness goes a long way.
- As in most hill stations, electricity supply can be erratic, and exceptionally bad during the monsoons. The house has a UPS power backup in case of power cuts for all low-power loads.
- The Nilgiris have a major human-animal conflict issue with the Nilgiri gaur (bison) due to habitat destruction. Do keep the main gate closed at all times. Watch out for wild animals while walking or driving.
- Monkeys abound near the home. Please keep windows and doors shut in empty rooms to avoid tempting them to venture inside.
