Villa la Maestà is an exceptional holiday home dating from the early
17th century, set within extensive, park like gardens. It is ideal for
a holiday with family or friends and provides a wonderful setting for
celebrating special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries.
Behind the historic stone façade, guests will find a delightful
surprise, a fully equipped private cinema room with red cinema seats
and a bar, perfect for relaxed movie nights together.
The centre of Pergine Valdarno is just 500 m away and offers a bar/
gelateria and a small grocery shop as well as a restaurant. Pieve a
Presciano is only a short drive away and has further dining options,
including the highly regarded Osteria dei Vinaioli. Levane, with shops
and a supermarket, lies 9 km away. Arezzo can be reached in around 30
minutes, while Cortona, Lake Trasimeno, Siena and Montepulciano are all
excellent destinations for day trips.
Set in peaceful countryside, the villa is surrounded by five hectares
of private land. Mature gardens with olive groves, lawns and flowering
shrubs create a harmonious setting. A charming courtyard, accessed from
the living and dining area, offers a shaded dining space beneath
wisteria and is beautifully lit in the evening. The large swimming pool
on a lower garden terrace, together with the hot tub, creates an
inviting place to relax on warm days.
Inside, the two storey house has been carefully restored, preserving
original features such as impressive fireplaces, terracotta floors and
handmade tiles. Traditional furnishings with antique and vintage pieces
create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The bedrooms are individually
designed in calm colours, including one fully accessible bedroom with
en suite bathroom.
The friendly owner has written a charming book, A Life in Tuscany:
Memoirs of a Tuscan Family, in which she recounts her family‘s life
over three generations and shares family and regional recipes. She also
now offers cooking classes for guests in a separate building within the
grounds.

About the area
Arezzo, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a destination that offers a rich tapestry of history, art, and culture. This charming city, less frequented by the tourist crowds that flock to its more famous neighbors, provides an authentic Italian experience steeped in tradition and beauty.
The city's medieval center is a treasure trove of historical architecture, with the Piazza Grande at its heart. This sloping square is surrounded by ancient buildings and is the site of the Giostra del Saracino, a traditional jousting tournament held twice a year that harks back to the Middle Ages. Visitors can feel the pulse of history as they wander through the cobblestone streets and explore landmarks such as the Romanesque-style Arezzo Cathedral and the imposing Medici Fortress.
Art enthusiasts will be drawn to the Basilica of San Francesco, which houses the stunning fresco cycle "The Legend of the True Cross" by Renaissance master Piero della Francesca. This masterpiece of early Renaissance art is considered one of the most significant fresco sequences in the world and is a must-see for any visitor to Arezzo.
Arezzo also boasts a vibrant antiques market, the Fiera Antiquaria, which takes place on the first weekend of every month. It's one of the largest of its kind in Italy, attracting collectors and enthusiasts from across the country. The streets and squares of the old town are filled with stalls selling everything from furniture to vintage jewelry, making it a paradise for treasure hunters.
The city's culinary offerings are equally enticing, with traditional Tuscan cuisine taking center stage. Local specialties such as Chianina beef, pecorino cheese, and the renowned Tuscan wines can be savored in the many restaurants and enotecas that dot the city.
For those looking to explore beyond the city limits, Arezzo's location in the Tuscan countryside makes it an ideal base for visiting the region's vineyards, picturesque hill towns, and the stunning landscapes that have inspired artists for centuries.
In essence, Arezzo is a destination that offers a blend of historical wonders, artistic splendor, and culinary delights, all set within the breathtaking scenery of Tuscany. It's a place where travelers can step back in time, indulge their senses, and experience the very essence of Italy.
