Haute Epoque: A Historical Treasure at the Heart of the Château
Located on the ground floor and the first floor of the Château de Villerambert, Haute Epoque is a journey through time, an immersion in history, and a dive into the charm of beautiful Languedoc residences of the 18th century, marked by the imprint of generations attached to this unique terroir, at the foot of the Black Mountain and amidst a millennia-old vineyard.
The Château de Villerambert: A Historical Gem in the Heart of Minervois
An invitation to discovery, nestled in the hills of the Aude, the Château de Villerambert stands proudly, a witness to a rich history and an exceptional terroir.
The castle, built in the 16th century, has elegantly withstood the test of time. It stands as a testament to a history of passion and tradition. Since 1858, the JULIEN family has perpetuated this heritage, preserving the soul of the place.
★ Haute Epoque occupies the ground floor and the first floor of the château. It was restored in 2023 in the spirit of beautiful Languedoc residences of the 18th century, with some rooms even dating back to the Renaissance.
★ On the ground floor, you will find the entrance, followed by the kitchen-dining room with its Caunes marble cladding, faithful to the spirit of castle kitchens, and the Renaissance Room, with its French ceiling and large fireplace, serving as a living room.
The first floor has four bedrooms:
★ The Diane room with its large 180 cm bed, Toile de Jouy drapes, and Provencal radassiés, flanked by its ingeniously arranged bathroom in the North-West tower.
★ The Castor and Pollux room, with its two single beds, harmoniously decorated in beige and terracotta colors.
★ The Olympe room, in the First Empire style, spacious enough to possibly accommodate baby beds.
★ The Esclarmonde room in the South-West tower, decorated in shades of brick red and carmine red, evoking the most beautiful veins of Incarnat marble.

About the area
Carcassonne, a medieval citadel nestled in the heart of the Languedoc region of France, is a destination that captivates visitors with its fairy-tale charm and historical significance. The city is renowned for its iconic double-walled fortifications and the imposing Château Comtal, which stands as a testament to Carcassonne's strategic importance during the Middle Ages.
The Cité de Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the centerpiece of the city's allure. Its cobbled streets, Gothic cathedral, and picturesque watchtowers transport travelers back in time. Visitors can walk along the ramparts for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the rolling vineyards that produce some of the region's finest wines.
Beyond the walls of the old city, the Bastide Saint-Louis, or the lower town, offers a more modern yet equally charming experience. Here, one can explore the bustling Place Carnot, the heart of Carcassonne's social life, with its vibrant market and cozy cafes. The Canal du Midi, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, runs through the town, offering leisurely boat tours and picturesque walking and cycling paths along its banks.
Carcassonne's rich history is also celebrated through its many festivals and events, such as the famous Carcassonne Festival, which features music, theater, and dance performances throughout the summer. The city's culinary scene is equally impressive, with traditional Languedoc cuisine that emphasizes fresh, local ingredients and a touch of Mediterranean flair.
For those interested in the supernatural, the legend of Dame Carcas, who is said to have outwitted Charlemagne's army, adds a layer of myth to the city's storied past. Meanwhile, the nearby Cathar castles offer further historical exploration, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Pyrenees mountains.
Carcassonne's blend of historical grandeur, cultural vibrancy, and natural beauty makes it a destination that appeals to history enthusiasts, romantics, and adventurers alike. Whether you're seeking to immerse yourself in the past, enjoy the relaxed pace of southern French life, or simply marvel at one of Europe's most impressive medieval fortresses, Carcassonne promises an experience that is both enchanting and unforgettable.
