The holiday home is a mesmerizing retreat with its origins steeped in history, dating back to the period between 1903 and 1905. Originally conceived as a horse stable and carriage house for the adjacent noble palace, this magnificent estate was crafted by the current owner’s great-grandfather, Egidio, an enterprising merchant of oil, wine, and Lucca’s finest cheeses, who extended his trade beyond Italy’s borders, reaching as far as Brazil.
Today, the holiday home exudes an atmosphere of timeless elegance, enriched by the exquisite outdoor furnishings adorned with intricate stone statues. These masterpieces were sculpted by the owner’s grandfather, a gifted artist who honed his craft in a historic atelier perched on the ancient walls of Lucca. The statues, with their striking majesty and grace, not only enhance the outdoor space but also weave a narrative of artistic and familial heritage, deeply interwoven with the residence’s own enchanting history.
In this setting of refined elegance and rich history, every detail of the holiday home radiates a profound sense of continuity and connection with the past. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a unique experience, surrounded by a tapestry of culture and beauty that transcends time.
Note: the house is located very close to the railway tracks so it is possible to hear the noise of the passing trains. The train station is located very close so the passing trains pass at a very slow speed as they are preparing to stop. This causes the noise to be low or sometimes almost imperceptible. We stayed in the house for 5 hours in the afternoon and we verified that the frequency of trains in transit is around 1 or 2 per hour.

About the area
Lucca, Italy, is a captivating city that embodies the quintessential charm of Tuscany. Enclosed by well-preserved Renaissance walls that have been transformed into a pedestrian promenade, the city invites visitors to step back in time and explore its historical treasures at a leisurely pace.
The heart of Lucca is its old town, a labyrinth of cobblestone streets, picturesque piazzas, and elegant buildings. The Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, a unique elliptical square, is a highlight, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the piazza, which is lined with cafes and shops, perfect for sipping a cappuccino and people-watching.
Lucca's rich history is showcased in its numerous churches, the most famous being the San Michele in Foro with its stunning façade and the Lucca Cathedral (Duomo di San Martino), which houses remarkable artworks and the revered Volto Santo di Lucca, a wooden crucifix. The city's religious heritage is further celebrated during the Luminara di Santa Croce festival, where Lucca is illuminated by thousands of candles in a breathtaking display.
For those with a taste for adventure, climbing the Guinigi Tower offers a rewarding experience. The tower is notable for the ancient oak trees growing atop its roof, providing a unique vantage point over the city and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Music enthusiasts will find Lucca especially endearing as it is the birthplace of the famous composer Giacomo Puccini. The Puccini Museum, located in his childhood home, is a pilgrimage site for opera lovers, and the city hosts an annual summer festival celebrating his works.
Beyond its historical and cultural offerings, Lucca is also a gateway to the Tuscan landscape, with opportunities for cycling and hiking along the Serchio River or through the nearby hills. The city's culinary scene is equally enticing, featuring traditional Tuscan cuisine, fine wines, and local specialties like Buccellato, a sweet bread that is a Lucca staple.
Lucca's blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, combined with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals, makes it a destination that offers a truly authentic Italian experience. Whether you're seeking to immerse yourself in history, enjoy the arts, or simply indulge in the pleasures of Italian life, Lucca is a city that will capture your heart and leave you longing to return.
