The surrounding area also offers hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers.
The Lookout, a custom-built log cabin on 18 acres of mountainside property, is not just a vacation rental but a piece of living history. The hand-hewn logs that make up the cabin are a testament to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of early America’s pioneering souls. Initially built in the 1830s by the Callaway family, immortalized in the annals of American history when frontiersman Daniel Boone rescued their kidnapped daughters, the cabin was moved and reassembled in its current location. The main floor living room, with its log walls and ceiling beams, is a cozy place to warm up with the stone gas fireplace. The updated kitchen has all you need to cook a favorite meal and plenty of counter space, including a beautiful wooden countertop island. Outside, the covered porch is the perfect place to relax in the rocking chairs with your morning coffee and enjoy long-range mountain views of Grandfather, Sugar, and Beech Mountains. The back deck has a gas grill, fire pit, and outdoor dining table where guests can enjoy the cool mountain air. The lower level den has a large sectional with room for the whole family to relax while playing games or watching TV.
This historic three-bedroom, two-bath cabin can accommodate up to six guests. Grandfather Mountain is visible from each bedroom. The top floor has two bedrooms with queen beds that share a full bathroom. The lower level has an additional queen bedroom and a full bathroom.
The Lookout is not just a historical cabin but a modern retreat. It has all the amenities you need for a comfortable and convenient stay. These include Wifi, a Nintendo Switch, and a washer and dryer. The lower-level bedrooms and common areas have electric baseboard heat, and the upper bedrooms have mini-split heating and air conditioning units. Two dogs are welcome, with an additional pet fee. Please note that there are exterior security cameras at the cabin. Winter travelers should prepare for inclement weather with AWD or 4WD and snow chains.
