The Neighborhood
The pretty village of Great Ayton is perched on the banks of the River Leven. The village has ancient origins, with several Neolithic sites within the parish boundary. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book. In former times, the village’s industries included linen making, tanning, brewing and mining. Nowadays, the village is well known for its two picturesque village greens, Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum and proximity to the intriguing volcano-esque Roseberry Topping. The surrounds are popular with walkers, mountain bikers, runners and fishers. Amateur photographers and artists of all skill levels will find impressive backdrops to capture. Nature abounds for lovers of wildlife, too.
