Il Bel Laghetto is a charming rustic villa in the beautiful Tuscan
countryside. It sits in a peaceful location surrounded by olive groves,
vineyards and wide open fields, the perfect place to relax and enjoy a
comfortable holiday with family or friends. The accommodation is
divided into two separate apartments, which gives you a good mix of
shared time together and private retreat.
A ten-minute drive brings you to the medieval town of Castiglion
Fiorentino, where you will find a supermarket, restaurants, bars and a
delightful historic centre. The lovely town of Cortona is only fifteen
kilometres away. Its ancient city walls date to the fifth century and
sights such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Franciscan
Convent of Le Celle make it well worth a visit. Lake Trasimeno is
around thirty minutes away by car, as are Arezzo, Siena, Perugia and
the UNESCO recognised Val d Orcia, all of which are excellent choices
for memorable day trips.
The villa is painted a lovely pale yellow and features dark‑green
wooden shutters. A loggia runs along the front and one side of the
house and offers multiple comfortable seating areas and a large dining
table outside the dining room. The lawned garden with mature trees
provides plenty of space for relaxation and play. For children there is
a swing and slide set, whilst a table‑tennis table offers
entertainment for guests of all ages. The covered outdoor kitchen with
pizza oven and grill invites the pleasure of outdoor cooking and Tuscan
living. The pool with Roman steps is completely fenced which enables
families with small children to enjoy the holiday fully at ease.
Inside you feel the true Tuscan charm with wooden‑beam ceilings,
terracotta floors and fireplaces. The walls are painted in soft pastel
tones, and exposed natural‑stone sections reflect the home’s historic
structure. Both apartments have been lovingly furnished with
comfortable furniture and many carefully chosen details to create a
warm, inviting atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome from the
first moment.

About the area
Cortona, a charming hilltop town in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany, Italy, is a destination that captivates with its rich history, stunning views, and cultural depth. Perched on a hill overlooking the Val di Chiana, Cortona offers a picturesque setting that has inspired artists, writers, and travelers for centuries.
The town's origins date back to Etruscan times, and its ancient walls still stand as a testament to its storied past. Visitors can explore the Etruscan Academy Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the Etruscan, Roman, and Egyptian civilizations. The Diocesan Museum is another cultural treasure, home to significant works of art, including the famous Annunciation by Fra Angelico.
Cortona's medieval architecture is a delight to explore, with narrow cobblestone streets leading to hidden squares and beautiful churches. The town's centerpiece is the Piazza della Repubblica, where the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) stands with its impressive clock tower. The Santa Margherita Sanctuary, perched at the highest point of the town, offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and Lake Trasimeno.
For those interested in literature and film, Cortona gained fame as the setting for the book and movie "Under the Tuscan Sun." Fans can visit locations featured in the story and experience the romantic allure that drew the author, Frances Mayes, to this enchanting town.
Cortona is also a haven for food lovers, offering a taste of authentic Tuscan cuisine. Local specialties include pici pasta, Chianina beef, and the prized white truffles that grow in the region. The town's weekly market is a great place to sample local cheeses, cured meats, and other regional products.
The surrounding countryside is dotted with vineyards and olive groves, making Cortona an excellent base for wine tasting tours and culinary excursions. The nearby wineries produce some of Tuscany's finest wines, including the renowned Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Chianti.
Throughout the year, Cortona hosts a variety of events and festivals, such as the Cortona On The Move photography festival, the Cortona Mix Festival of music and art, and the Tuscan Sun Festival, which celebrates the region's culture, food, and wine.
In essence, Cortona is a treasure trove of history, art, and gastronomy, offering a quintessentially Tuscan experience that is both enriching and unforgettable. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a cultural journey, or a culinary adventure, Cortona is a destination that truly has something for everyone.
