It’s no surprise that this stunning cottage has been featured on HGTV, as well as in Lonny, Cottage Living, and Bungalows; Cottages magazines. With its stylishly rustic touches and comfy vibes, the Leo Cottage perfectly embodies Harbor Country’s curated, casual aesthetic. Designed and previously owned by the sought-after firm of Kate Marker Interiors (whose work has been recognized by Architectural Digest and Luxe Home, and touted as one of Domino’s “20 Designers to Watch”), this home offers the best combination of beauty and comfort in the heart of Union Pier.
The cottage exterior greets guests with a charming wood picket gate and an award-winning garden featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. Upon entering, patterned floors and a charming palette provide the utmost in cottage comfort. Two queen bedrooms are perfectly appointed, in addition to a generous bunk room that sleeps 4. The main bedroom and bathroom showcase a stand-alone clawfoot tub, ideal for the kids to bathe in after a day at the beach or for enjoying some private time with a glass of wine. Vaulted ceilings and rustic exposed beams lend a dramatic aspect to the main living area, while accents of rattan, rope, natural fiber, whitewash, and shiplap contribute to the home’s Lake Michigan vacation themes. Perhaps the greatest features of the home are its two wood-burning, free-standing fireplaces—one in the front family room and the other in the primary suite.
The Leo Cottage kitchen has been updated to include many modern amenities while still retaining a vintage lake house feel, with newly installed kitchen cabinets, appliances, lighting, and faucets. You’ll love preparing tonight’s vegetables in the generous farmhouse sink! The well-equipped kitchen includes an oversized center prep island with bar stools for entertaining, plus a breakfast area with booth seating. Serve in the gorgeous dining room or extend the options for gathering over meals to the outdoors with a large furnished patio and a well-appointed screened-in gazebo to keep the bugs away.
Guests will also have access to a private hot tub (a great place to unwind), a fire pit area, and an outdoor shower to rinse away the sand after a long day at the beach. The Leo Cottage comes with 2 adult bikes and 2 children’s bikes for guest use, along with beach chairs and a ping-pong table in the garage for some family entertainment. With so much to offer, this home is sure to provide your family with beautiful and lasting memories!

About the area
Union Pier, Michigan is a charming beach town and vacation destination situated between the Lake Michigan shore and the Galien River only 5 miles from the Indiana state border. Union Pier, with a collection of neighboring communities like New Buffalo, Lakeside, Sawyer and Harbert, make up what’s known as Harbor Country Michigan. Established by John Gowdy, a settler from New York State, in 1861, Union Pier was initially set up as a sawmill to process timber and ship the material to Chicago. Located only 75 miles outside of Chicago, this area of Harbor Country is nicknamed the “Chicago Hamptons” for it’s abundance of lakeside retreats and city visitors seeking summer vacation memories. Book a nostalgic stay along the shores of Lake Michigan with a Union Pier vacation.
