At the south end of Aldeburgh’s vibrant high street close to shops, restaurants, yacht club, beach and marshes, this pretty holiday home retains all the character of bygone years combined with a modern bathroom and kitchen - perfect for a seaside holiday or romantic getaway at any time of the year with a quaint garden and cosy open fire.
Interiors are decorated in a charming coastal cottage style with a sociable open plan living/kitchen/dining room on the ground floor where you can socialise and cater at home or enjoy a takeaway from one of the many eateries close by. The smart shower room also sits on the ground floor and a typically steep staircase takes you to the first floor where both bedrooms have double beds (one a 4ft 6inch) and ample space for you to unpack and settle in.
GROUND FLOOR
You’re welcomed directly into the open plan living/kitchen/dining room with a rear hall giving access to the garden and shower room. The living space is carpeted and tiles run through the rest of the ground floor.
LIVING/KITCHEN/BREAKFAST ROOM
A charming room which has been cleverly divided so you can chat between the cosy sitting area and practical kitchen, equipped for catering at home if you wish. A couple of double sofas and coffee tables are positioned so you can make the most of the open fire and watch the TV which has Freesat, a DVD from the stack in the cupboard, or simply curl up with your choice of book from the shelves. There’s a drop leaf table by the window with three chairs and a stool for mealtimes.
Step down to the kitchen which has a tiled workspace, an electric free-standing oven with a separate grill and four rings; a microwave, a fridge (no ice box), a washer/dryer, a kettle and a toaster. There’s a little cupboard housing a few games (including the fun Aldeburgh version of Monopoly) and extra storage space.
SHOWER ROOM
Sitting at the back of the cottage. The shower cubicle has a hand-held shower and there’s a Victorian-style washbasin under the window, a WC, and a heated towel rail with towels provided.
UPSTAIRS
A door from the kitchen area opens to steep carpeted stairs which turn and rise to a little first-floor landing where you’ll find the doors to both bedrooms. Being a period cottage the stairs are typically steep and not suited for guests with a mobility issue, tall guests or little guests, but there is a handrail on the left to steady you. Both bedrooms are carpeted.
MAIN BEDROOM
The king-size bed takes pride of place between bedside tables in this pretty bedroom. There’s ample space for you to unpack and settle in with shelves and hanging space in the two wardrobes; and a generous chest of drawers with a luggage rack for your case and a Lloyd Loom chair in the corner.
GARDEN BEDROOM
Sitting quietly at the back overlooking the garden and marshes beyond, this room is furnished with a 4ft bed, a bedside table, a clothes rack, and a wardrobe with plenty of hangers.
OUTSIDE
This mid-terraced cottage is at the far end of town conveniently close to Fort Green Car Park. There are no parking restrictions on the high street in front of No 277 so you may be lucky and find parking there and can enjoy exploring the town, beach and marshes on foot. There’s a paved garden at the back (with access to the neighbouring cottage) where you can enjoy your morning coffee or favourite tipple at the end of the day. Please note that dogs are not allowed.

About the area
Aldeburgh, located on the unspoiled East Suffolk coast of England, is a charming seaside town that offers a tranquil escape with its pebble beaches, rich cultural heritage, and picturesque landscapes. Known for its connection to composer Benjamin Britten, Aldeburgh is a haven for music lovers, hosting the annual Aldeburgh Festival, which celebrates classical music with performances in various venues, including the famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
The town's main street is lined with independent shops, galleries, and eateries, offering visitors a taste of local life and the opportunity to find unique souvenirs. Aldeburgh's culinary scene is particularly renowned for its fresh seafood, with the Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop claiming to be one of the best in the UK.
For those interested in history, the Moot Hall Museum, housed in a remarkable timber-framed building, provides insights into Aldeburgh's past as a Tudor port and its evolution over the centuries. The nearby Aldeburgh Martello Tower, one of several defensive forts built along the British coast during the Napoleonic Wars, is another historical landmark worth visiting.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the close proximity to the RSPB Minsmere, a nature reserve with diverse habitats that attract a wide variety of bird species, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also offers stunning landscapes for walking, cycling, and photography.
Aldeburgh's beach is a focal point for relaxation and contemplation, with the iconic Scallop sculpture by Maggi Hambling standing as a tribute to Benjamin Britten and a symbol of the town's artistic spirit. The beachfront promenade is perfect for leisurely strolls, with the soothing sounds of the waves and the refreshing sea breeze.
For a touch of drama, the Aldeburgh Cinema, which has been screening films since 1919, provides an intimate setting to enjoy both mainstream and independent movies. The town also hosts a number of other cultural events throughout the year, including literary festivals and art exhibitions.
In essence, Aldeburgh is a destination that offers a peaceful coastal retreat with a rich cultural tapestry, set against a backdrop of natural beauty and historical intrigue. It's a place where visitors can unwind, indulge in the arts, savor fresh local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the charm of a traditional English seaside town.
