Nestled in a valley near the Picos de Europa, this wonderful rural house enjoys a secluded position, offering the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful break with family and friends whilst offering a great base to explore the beautiful Asturian countryside.
Set within a lovely private garden, Casa Rio Zardon enjoys a tranquil setting, with several terraces and a verdant lawn that falls away to the river and valley beyond. Arranged over three floors, the house is a traditional property, with bright and comfortable rooms that offer plenty of space to spread out. Well-designed, the interior has been carefully decorated, with stylish furniture and thoughtful touches of colour that create a warm and inviting feel throughout. On the ground floor, an open-plan living area features a large sofa and several armchairs, offering the perfect setting to gather together beside the fire and enjoy a cosy evening, whilst a neighbouring study space offers a quieter setting to work remotely. To the far end, a tall room houses the kitchen and dining area, with exposed timber beams and large openings that draw in plenty of natural light whilst framing picturesque views over the garden and valley. The kitchen has a modern finish, fully equipped for preparing meals throughout your stay, whilst the large dining table has ample room to share pleasurable meals with everyone.
There are four bedrooms in total, each carefully decorated with varying sizes of beds. An impressive main suite features a fantastic king-sized bed, as well as a charming seating area with two comfortable armchairs positioned to make the most of the wonderful views. The ensuite bathroom is equally well-presented and offers the choice between a rainfall shower or a lovely bathtub, where guests can soak at the end of the day. Two further rooms can be found along the corridor, with queen-sized beds and separate areas for working, whilst one room features its own ensuite and the other has access to a private bathroom across the hall. Each room has double doors that open out onto a shared balcony, inviting guests to step outside and enjoy a relaxing coffee surrounded by the peaceful morning mist. A fourth bedroom can be found in the attic, with four single beds, perfect for children or additional guests.
On the ground floor, the kitchen double doors open onto the expansive terrace, with the garden laid out around and below you, wide lawn areas surrounded by lush vegetation and leafy trees. The charcoal barbecues are perfect for cooking up a celebratory meal, and long tables and benches on the terrace and under the horreo make the perfect place to share entertaining evenings beneath the stars and amongst nature. There is also a firebowl to enjoy cosy fireside moments outside. A rustic stairway leads down to the river below, where in the summer months, you can bathe in the natural swimming pool, or just relax in a camping chair and enjoy the tranquility.

Location:
Situated in Spain’s Asturias region, Casa Rio Zardon is perfectly placed between the Picos de Europa and the untamed Cantabrian coastline. Whilst enjoying a tranquil, secluded position, the nearest village is less than half an hour’s walk, whilst the charming hillside towns are just a short drive away.
The nearest beach can be found in Ribadesella, where the beautiful Playa de Santa Marina extends along the shore between two grassy headlands. The golden sand is perfect for walking, or you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the deep blue waters. The town itself is carved in half by the mouth of the river, with the charming old town sitting on the eastern shore. Wander the narrow streets to discover the old plaza and browse the artisan stores where you can buy locally made products such as pungent blue cheeses or the region’s speciality of cider. A number of bars and restaurants line the waterfront, perfect for sampling various local brews or making the most of the region’s fantastic cuisine and sharing a plate of tapas whilst looking out over the port. Carroceu is a great low-key spot with a cider bar and menu of seafood, whilst for a unique meal tucked in the old town, Arbidel serves up classics with a contemporary twist.
There are plenty of beaches dotted along the coastline, and the sweeping Playa Verbes lies just to the north. Whilst receiving a heavy swell due to its open front, the beach is perfect for wandering along the shore or spending an afternoon sitting on the sand. The area is also popular amongst surfers, with some of the more exposed beaches picking up sizeable waves during the autumn and winter months, and several nearby surf schools offer both lessons and equipment hire. Just a 25-minute drive away is the fabulous Torimbia beach! Park your car up at the top and walk on down to the crescent-shaped beach and get your feet in the sand!
Away from the sea, the majestic Picos de Europa rise up into a beautiful verdant landscape, and you can spend the day hiking along trails or visiting the pretty hillside towns. Just 20 minutes from the house, Cangas de Onis is known for its hump-backed Roman bridge, as well as being the site of the first church constructed in post-conquest Iberia. The town is also a gateway to the national park, where you can discover the Lakes of Covadonga or attempt to scale one of the three massifs to enjoy spectacular views over the surrounding landscape.
