Experience a taste of Provence in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, staying within walking distance of its charming historic centre. Maison Mosaique has been skilfully renovated to achieve a successful mix of authentic and modern, transforming the old bastide into a stylish, comfortable and fully air-conditioned home.
The main house is conveniently on one level with the library/lounge opening to a shaded dining terrace, just perfect for relaxing breakfasts or exchanging news over dinner and a glass of wine at the end of the day. From here, you can admire the pretty enclosed garden with its private pool and mature Mediterranean trees and colourful shrubs.
A separate TV lounge and an open plan kitchen-dining area give plenty of space for guests to get away from the crowd if they need to. Additional privacy is provided by two of the four double bedrooms being located in an annexe while the remaining two are in the main house.
Often described as the “Jewel of Les Alpilles”, St-Rémy is large enough to have plenty of shops, tempting boutiques, excellent restaurants and a weekly market yet it’s still small enough to walk around. Indeed, strolling is the best way to see this lovely town with its car free historic centre and cobbled streets. Artist Vincent Van Gogh was inspired to paint his famous “Starry Night” here and many local artists still display and sell their artwork each Sunday on the lively Route des Artistes.
The wonderful Les Alpilles Natural Park has so many opportunities for outdoor family activities as well as the chance to visit several exquisite hillside villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence and Eygalières, both officially classified as ’Plus Beaux Villages’.
Take a day trip to the lively historic cities of Avignon and Nîmes or just head southwards towards Arles, the gateway to the Camargue with its iconic wild white horses, black bulls and pink flamingos. If you are missing the sights and sounds of the sea, the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are only an hour’s drive away.

Location:
Maison Mosaique enjoys a convenient location in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in the Bouches du Rhone department of southern France. The house is on the edge of town but only 700m from the town’s pedestrianised centre. The villa is located near the main road that links St-Rémy with Cavaillon and Tarascon and has easy access to nearby supermarkets and a bakery, butchers etc.
St-Rémy is large enough to have plenty of shops, elegant boutiques, galleries, Michelin starred restaurants and a weekly market – it’s easy to stroll around the pretty cobbled lanes of the pedestrianised centre. It is one of the special places loved by Vincent Van Gogh who painted his famous “Starry Night” and spent time in the asylum here. Many local artists still display and sell their artwork each summer Sunday on the lively Route des Artistes.
St-Rémy lies on the northern edge of Les Alpilles Natural Park so start your explorations by driving the short distance southwards into this amazing area, calling in at the archaeological site of Glanum along the way.
Les Alpilles Natural Park is heavenly for lovers of nature and beautiful landscapes. It also offers many opportunities for climbing, hiking, mountain biking and horse riding along its well-trodden trails. Small mountains lie next to verdant valleys with their swathes of vineyards, olive groves, cypresses, orchards and golden sunflowers. There are several idyllic hill top villages here such as Eygalières, much loved by celebrities, or Les Baux-de-Provence, perched on the rocky hillside.
When you feel like city bustle, Avignon, with its UNESCO World Heritage sites and covered markets, is only a 25km drive northwards. It is a similar distance southwards to the historic city of Arles, another place which inspired the paintings of Van Gogh and has the remains of a famous Roman amphitheatre.
It is easy to travel southwards from Arles to the wild Camargue Regional Park so well known for its wild white horses, black bulls and pink flamingos. There are lots of opportunities here for horse riding, hiking and bird watching or treat yourselves to a safari jeep tour from Arles. Its capital, Sainte-Maries-de-la-Mer, is only 67km away from home and has some fine sandy beaches.
