This exclusive residence received the AARCH 2016 Preservation Award for outstanding efforts in historic preservation and was placed on both the NY State and National Registers of Historic Places. Built in 1896, it was home to famous historical figures and hosted events that included President Grover Cleveland and many other dignitaries of that era.
Sited on a bluff, surrounded by towering trees, you'll immediately experience a sense of calm when approaching this 5-acre private retreat. Enjoy awe inspiring views of Upper Saranac Lake and distant mountains from the two porches and dock. The serene setting provides everything you want. Many people come to enjoy the peaceful seclusion and simply never leave the compound until it’s time to go home.
400 feet of private lake frontage boasts a clear shallow sandy bottom. Handrailed steps provide safe and easy access to the water. Four kayaks, a canoe, paddle board, fishing gear, and water toys are stored at the boathouse. The boathouse deck is also the perfect spot for a quiet cup of morning coffee where you’ll watch the mist rise before the sun’s rays begin to glisten on the lake.
The expansive and level lawn, rarely obtainable in the Adirondacks, overlooks the lake and is perfect for sports or just relaxing and admiring the expansive views. Badminton, croquet, and horseshoes can be set up in the spacious green yard.
Step inside the 5000 square-foot house and be impressed by authentic architectural details, high ceilings, wood paneled walls, comfortable furnishings, and views of the lake and woods throughout. The home offers 3 separate living areas, 2 with masonry fireplaces and one with a 65-inch Smart TV.
The spacious, modern kitchen comes fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and plenty of cooking tools to whip up a gourmet meal. There’s ample elbow room for multiple chefs to collaborate and others to gather around the island to chat and sip wine. Then enjoy your meal in the grand dining room at a gracious table which comfortably seats 10.
Outdoor dining is available on the stone patio where the gas grill will please all barbeque lovers. As the sun descends in the sky, light a fire in the nearby fire pit to roast marshmallows and recap the day's adventures.
The cozy bedrooms are welcome retreats after fun filled days. Drift off to sleep in organic cotton sheets, listening to the loons and waking up refreshed. Stroll the grounds with a cup of morning coffee while enjoying the activity of colorful hummingbirds, woodpeckers, goldfinches, monarch butterflies, and even a bald eagle!
