About the area
Beulah, Michigan, is a charming small town nestled on the shores of Crystal Lake in the heart of Benzie County. This picturesque destination is a haven for those seeking a tranquil getaway, outdoor adventures, and a taste of genuine Midwestern hospitality.
One of the town's most significant draws is Crystal Lake itself, an expanse of clear, blue water that is perfect for boating, fishing, swimming, and kayaking. The lake's sandy beaches provide a delightful spot for sunbathing, picnics, and watching the sunset paint the sky in vibrant hues.
For those who love the great outdoors, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a short drive away. This national treasure boasts miles of sand dunes, hiking trails, and stunning vistas of Lake Michigan. The Dune Climb is a popular activity, offering a fun and challenging ascent with a rewarding panoramic view at the top.
Beulah also serves as a gateway to some of Michigan's most scenic trails. The Betsie Valley Trail, for example, is a multi-use path that stretches for miles, providing opportunities for biking, walking, and in the winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The trail meanders through forests, fields, and along the Betsie River, showcasing the area's natural beauty.
The town itself exudes a quaint, small-town charm with its array of shops, galleries, and eateries. Visitors can browse local art, indulge in homemade ice cream, or dine at cozy restaurants that serve up fresh, locally-sourced fare. The Cherry Hut, a beloved institution since 1922, is famous for its cherry pies and products, reflecting the region's rich cherry-growing heritage.
Beulah's calendar is dotted with events and festivals that celebrate the community and the seasons. The annual Fourth of July celebration is a highlight, featuring a parade, fireworks, and family-friendly activities. The Fall Festival brings the community together to enjoy the harvest, with a variety of events including a pumpkin patch and hayrides.
For a more relaxed experience, visitors can enjoy a round of golf at one of the nearby courses, offering both challenging play and stunning views. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the local vineyards and wineries that dot the surrounding countryside, where they can sample award-winning Michigan wines.
In essence, Beulah, Michigan, is a destination that offers a peaceful retreat and a wealth of activities for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Its combination of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and small-town charm makes it a place worth visiting any time of the year.
