The Shires

The Shires is a beautifully appointed, charming, cottage in the heart of the picturesque village of Alstonefield. A warm and welcoming home from home for up to five guests, an ideal base to explore the Peak District and surrounding area. The cottage comprises three bedrooms: one super king size bedroom with ensuite which can be configured as a twin on request, and a king size double bedroom and a single bedroom which share a family bathroom. An additional WC can also be found on the ground floor. As you enter the cottage, you are welcomed into the large entrance hall, leading on to a spacious fully-fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, oven, fridge, freezer and microwave, perfect for preparing an enjoyable evening meal. You can dine with family and friends under the wooden beams of the delightful dining room for those special family occasions or take it easy and unwind of an evening with TV and Wi-Fi in the lounge for a restful stay. The Peak District National Park is one of the finest parts of the UK and popular with tourists and adventure-seekers all year round. Whether you’re looking for walking routes, cosy pubs, hills and reservoirs, country houses or stately homes there’s so many opportunities for memorable days out. Two off-road cycle trails pass within a couple of miles of the property and there are several other spectacular National Routes nearby. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Alton Towers and the National Trust’s Children’s Country House at Sudbury are all within 30 minutes’ drive and the underground caverns at Castleton not much further. Pretty villages, superb views, interesting history, fascinating wildlife and geology – it’s all here for you to enjoy. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept pets at this home. Please be aware the fireplaces are for decorative purposes only and are not suitable for lighting.
