The Neighborhood:
The picturesque seaside village of Rottingdean is just 7 kilometres (4 miles) east of Brighton, and it is surrounded on all sides by the South Downs National Park and the sea.
The house is located just a few seconds’ stroll away from the breathtaking pebbled Rottingdean Beach, which features invigorating undercliff walks as well as breathtaking views of the ocean. If you have time, stop by Molly’s Cafe while you’re there.
From the moment the sun rises to the moment it sets, the seafront and historic high street in Rottingdean are home to an extensive variety of eateries, cafes, and takeaways that cater to a wide range of feelings and preferences.
There is really no need to go anywhere else when Rottingdean has six different pubs to choose from, including the town’s oldest, Ye Olde Black Horse, which was established in 1513, and The White Horse, which boasts an unbeatable location and breathtaking views of the ocean. Even so, given that the regular "coaster" bus service to Brighton takes less than 15 minutes, and that driving along the coastal road takes even less time, you might be tempted to go there instead. Along the way, you’ll also have no trouble getting to Brighton Marina.
Rottingdean is rich in living history, including its Norman church, numerous artistic connections, such as the old home and adjacent walled gardens that belonged to Rudyard Kipling, and The Grange, which serves as the village museum and art gallery. In addition, Rottingdean is home to Rudyard Kipling’s former home.
The South Downs National Park and some of the most beautiful walks in the countryside are directly accessible from the house, and the Beacon Hill nature reserve, with its famous windmill, is just a short stroll away.
Rottingdean is the ideal location from which to explore Brighton and other locations further afield because there is so much to do, see, and enjoy in the area. The ideal place to visit throughout the year because it is less crowded than other popular destinations.
Getting Around:
You can take a walk through the village, all the way to the South Downs, or all the way down to the beach. The grocery store, pharmacy, bakery, pubs, and shops in the village are all within easy walking distance from one another.
If you want to go into the city, Brighton is approximately fifteen minutes away on the regular "coaster" bus service, or you can get there even more quickly by driving directly along the coastal road.
There are a number of buses that will take you from Rottingdean to Brighton if you get on Marine Drive, and the trip to Saltdean and The Lido (travelling in the opposite direction) will only take you a few minutes.
You can easily drive to other locations such as Worthing or Shoreham to the west or to the breathtaking village of Alfriston, Seven Sisters, and Cuckmere Haven to the east. These locations are all in the same general direction.
The nearest mainline station is Brighton.
