The town is within reach of the famous Mount Rushmore National Memorial, where the faces of four U.S. presidents are carved into the granite mountain. Another geological wonder, Devils Tower National Monument, is also accessible for a day trip and offers unique rock climbing opportunities.
Whitewood's proximity to Sturgis makes it an ideal lodging option during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in the world. Visitors can experience the roar of engines and the camaraderie of the biker community while enjoying the quieter respite that Whitewood provides.
The town itself, though small, has a friendly community and local events that give visitors a taste of local life. The Whitewood Summer Fest, featuring parades, live music, and community meals, is a highlight for those visiting during the warmer months.
