Welcome to The Stables, an historic building, unique, elegantly re-vamped, original horse stable, converted into a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom modern villa, located within the widely renowned, historic suburb of Newcastle, The Hill. Originally constructed in 1895, this historic building has been restored between 2020 and 2022 by the current owners. The building was originally a horse stable, designed by one of Newcastle’s most prominent architects, Frederick Menkens, who is well known locally, for a number of impressive buildings in Newcastle.
The Stables is a luxury villa which facilitates 4 guests in total, perfect for an adult or small family getaway. Complete with 2 Queen bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, separated by a large timber staircase, one bedroom on each floor. On the entry level, ground level, there is an open plan kitchen, living/dining area, complete with an additional enclosed caf’e style bench sitting area, (with the option of opening the caf’e style windows to become an outdoor balcony), encompassing extraordinary views over Newcastle harbour and the city through to the sand dunes at Stockton. The owners of the stables have extensively planned the villa, ensuring that they have maintained the historical value of the building, during their renovations. In doing so they have tastefully revamped the original building, which was left derelict to ensure that the building maintains its historic integrity while incorporating all the modern conveniences for guests during their stay.
Be prepared to be breath taken, as you walk through the front doors of the light filled, Stables. From the outset, the beautiful recycled timber lined walls and modern cabinetry establish the careful mix of old and new throughout the property. The owners have utilised recycled timber floorboards lining boards and exposed beams - which have been lifted, milled and or sanded and reinstalled into the villa to maintain the integrity and heritage of the property.
The Stables includes air conditioning, ceiling fans, Wi-Fi, Smart tv, access to Netflix, quality appliances in the fully functional kitchen (gas cook top, brand-new oven and dishwasher) laundry facilities and so much more, for use during your stay.
Walk down the stairs from the front door, straight into the lower-level master bedroom, which has been refurbished with the installation of a new floor over the original sandstone stables floor and removal of a horse feed bin which had been converted to a kitchen basin. The barn style windows, exposed brick work and rear double Dutch stable doors of the lower bedroom, have been left in their original form, adding charm and sophistication to the entire room. Set with its own modern style bathroom and walk in robe, open the doors out to the rear lower level of the property into a private outdoor, Victorian, tiled alfresco area, complete with gas BBQ, and bench seating. Beyond this area is a second covered area with outdoor table where you can relax with a glass of wine, or BBQ dinner at the outdoor table.
The Stables is conveniently located centrally in the elevated part of Newcastle, you can leave your car parked, there is dedicated parking out the front of the property, for your entire stay, with everything you need, located within walking distance of the front door. There is also a paid on-street parking available on Church Street. Situated within a 1 km walk to Newcastle Beach, and a 2.4 km walk to Nobbys Beach, even closer to the nearest restaurants, cafes, pubs, boutique shopping and the local brewery in the centre of town.
