The Neighborhood:
Located in Cropton on the outskirts of Pickering, there are many local attractions for you to enjoy when staying at Beckhouse Cottages.
The North York Moors National Park is full of beautiful landscape in the form of stunning heather moorland, spectacular coast, ancient woodland and historic site. Visit Castle Howard, one of the most spectacular English stately homes and popular tourist attractions in Yorkshire.
You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to museums in the area. The Beck Isle Museum is housed in a handsome Regency residence near the centre of Pickering, adjacent to the Pickering Beck. Here William Marshall planned England’s first Agricultural Institute in the early 1800’s. It is therefore fitting that today this house should contain a collection of bygones relating largely to the rural crafts and living style of Ryedale. Take a step back to the 18th Century at the Ryedale Folk Museum, or see the telegraph system, early x-ray tubes and literally hundreds of historic electrical instruments at the Museum of Victorian Science.
You can also enjoy some great family days out within a short distance from Cropton. Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo, and resort located in the village of Kirby Misperton. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates steam trains along an 18 mile line between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont, through the heart of the North York Moors National Park, with occasional trains through to Whitby.
Getting Around:
Two bus routes stop in Cropton. The 173 runs between Pickering and the pretty village of Rosedale, whilst the M6 operates from York to Pickering.
The closest train station can be found in Malton. From here, you’ll have direct access to Scarborough and York, with connecting routes to Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool.
