It’s a great spot for exploring the island.The pretty village, Vamos village is 25km from Chania, set in West Crete in the foothills of “The White Mountains.” Rethymno is only 35km distance, and the capital city of Crete Heraklion is 135km away. Vamos is in a semi-mountainous spot, 300m above sea level, yet only a few kilometres to the sea.Known for its compelling architectural heritage, Vamos draws visitors for its preserved traditional stone road, sublime painted Chapels of Virgin Mary (dating to the 13th century), and Karidi Monastery which boasts a spectacular original olive press with 12 arches.The beautiful Chania has a dash of Florence about it and a touch of the Venetian grandeur, the stunning harbour is a majestic site during the changing light of the day while the old port, narrow shopping streets and waterfront restaurants blend for a charming ambience. Mountain villages offer a window into the “inner Crete” with hiking trails and archaeological sites at every turn.
