This custom home is one of our most popular, with stunning long-range views across the mountains to be enjoyed while soaking in the hot tub or from the fire-pit area on the deck beside the home. Inside enjoy the especially well-outfitted kitchen, central AC, wood-burning fireplace, pool table, Foosball and flat screen tvs. All this and more awaits you in a lovely Valle Crucis setting, convenient to most area attractions and events.
Black Bear Lodge is a knotty pine paneled log cabin, comprising two main floors and a loft. It was completed in the fall of 2008 and welcomed its first guests in December 2008. It sits at an elevation of approximately 4000’ and, from virtually every room, has unsurpassed and unobstructed majestic views of the mountain ranges and valleys as far away as forty miles to the north.
The main floor contains the spacious post-and-beam Great Room with soaring ceilings, a window wall open to the wrap-around covered deck overlooking the distant mountains, a wood-burning stone fireplace, game table, and a cozy sitting area for the wall-mounted 46” flat screen HDTV with a six speaker Blueray surround sound system for BDs, DVDs or CDs as well as an Ipod docking station to play your personal music collection. Just off the great room is the commodious gourmet kitchen with honed granite counter tops, abundant cabinet space and top-of-the-line built in stainless appliances, including a four burner gas cook top and oven, and a large prep island with built-in microwave and additional seating. The adjacent dining room was designed to seat eight comfortably around a large oak farm table. From the kitchen, you can enter the windowed laundry room with modern front-loading washer and dryer. Also on the main floor is a powder room and a very large master bedroom with king bed, private en suite master bath, raised pine ceiling and direct access to the covered back deck.
Imagine yourself resting comfortably in the softness of the cushions in the great room, your favorite book in hand, the soothing warmth from the crackling fireplace, the snow covered mountains out your window reminding you of another place and time, the quiet images brought on by the surround sound stereo, the smell of baking in the nearby kitchen. As they say,,,it doesn’t get much better than this!
On the second floor is the loft, reserved for another master bedroom suite with a log frame queen bed nestled under twin skylights in the pine-paneled vaulted ceiling, and a very private en suite master bath containing a separate glass-enclosed stall shower and a raised soaking tub to soothe both body and mind.
The lower level has voluminous 9 ½ foot ceilings and contains an additional spacious and beautifully-appointed country chic master bedroom with a queen bed and comfortable sitting area. There is a private room for the kids with Foosball table, and many sleeping options: a full, three twins, and a twin trundle. There is a large master-style bathroom with double vanity and glass-enclosed tub/shower and, to relax and entertain the guests, an enormous, deluxe recreation room with a Minnesota Fats pool table, a 52” flat screen HDTV and its own private covered deck with sumptuous hot tub overlooking the distant mountains. Who could ask for more in a North Carolina mountain retreat?
Each of the cabins’ bathrooms has a granite vanity top with two sinks and rustic cross-handled faucet sets and antique barn-wood-framed mirror above. Each also has an enclosed toilet room for the ultimate in comfort and privacy.
The cabins’ ample heating and air conditioning systems have three separate zones, each with its own thermostat, so that each living area can be regulated to achieve the desired climate for your personal comfort.
The floors of the cabin are made of rustic wide-plank knotty yellow pine that have been carefully stained and oiled to remind you of days long gone when mountain homes were crafted entirely by hand from available materials. In keeping with this spirit of self-sufficiency the mantel over the fireplace, the sofa table in the great room, the serving shelf in the dining room and the small shelf in the lower hallway all were hand-crafted by a local artisan from a tall, regal cherry tree that was felled to make room for the cabin.
