Korcula is considered as the treasure of the southern Dalmatia and offers to its visitors scenic walled old town of Korcula, stunning coastal panoramas, otherworldly fishing villages and idyllic coves. The sixth largest island in Croatia, Korcula is 20 miles long and rather narrow, between 4 and 5 miles wide on average. This island is known for its dense forest and the ancient Greeks called the island Black Korcula (Kerkyra melaina) for this reason. Away from the tourist-places on the coast of the island Korcula, in the island’s interior one discovers a unique green landscape with panoramic views and hidden cultural treasure, which one can discover either on foot or by bicycle. The coast of the island of Korcula is very indented with a large number of bays and coves.
The main resorts are Korcula Town (people call it “Little Dubrovnik” because of its medieval squares, churches, palaces and houses), Vela Luka and Lumbarda. There’s also smaller towns and villages dotted around on the island for those looking for a more secluded holiday. Korcula is one of Croatia’s most treasured islands although, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, not quite as popular as some of its slightly more northern counterparts, such as Brac and Hvar. This may be because the island is a little further away to get to (both from Split or Dubrovnik) and some of the most convenient ferry services to the island only run in summer. The island of Marco Polo will awaken the explorer, athlete, gourmet, hedonist, romantic that lies within you... So do not hesitate for even a moment. Get to know island Korcula, and yourself along with it.
Prizba consists of several smaller bays: Podjamje, Danca, Mala and Velika Prizba and two peninsulas: Ratak and Priscapac. Priscapac is also a tourist resort with a pebble beach and accompanying tourist facilities.
On both sides of the Ratak peninsula there are also pebble beaches, and nearby there is a car camp, restaurants, a coffee bar, a post office and smaller shops. There is also a small monastery of the Daughters of Mercy on Ratko, where Mass is held every Sunday.
At Prizba you can rent a motor boat with which you can go on a trip to the islands that are about 800 m away from the coast. The islands are Vrhovnjak, Sritnjak, Crklica and Stupa, they are uninhabited and have many places suitable for swimming and sunbathing.
There is also a diving center on the Priscapac peninsula. The professional staff organizes diving trips and holds diving courses.

About the area
Korčula, an enchanting island located off the southern coast of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea, is a captivating destination that offers a rich blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Known for its dense forests, hence the Greek name Korkyra Melaina meaning "Black Corfu," Korčula is a verdant oasis that beckons travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.
The island's crowning jewel is Korčula Town, often referred to as "Little Dubrovnik" due to its medieval squares, churches, palaces, and stone houses, all encased within formidable defensive walls. The town's layout is a herringbone pattern, which was designed to reduce the effects of wind and sun, showcasing the ingenuity of past urban planners. Visitors can wander through the narrow streets, discovering hidden treasures and glimpses of its storied past at every turn.
Korčula is also reputed to be the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo, and history enthusiasts can explore the Marco Polo House, believed to be his ancestral home. The town's Marco Polo Museum adds an interactive dimension to his life and journeys, making it a fascinating stop for all ages.
The island's cultural heritage is further celebrated through traditional music and dance, with the Moreška Sword Dance being a particular highlight. This chivalrous dance, performed by local men, is a dramatic representation of the battles between the Moors and Christians and is a spectacle not to be missed.
For those drawn to the allure of the sea, Korčula's indented coastline offers secluded beaches, quiet coves, and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sailing. The nearby archipelago of small islets is ideal for day trips and exploration, providing a serene escape from the everyday.
Korčula's vineyards produce some of Croatia's finest wines, such as the white Pošip and Grk, which are best enjoyed at a local konoba (tavern) alongside fresh seafood and traditional Croatian dishes. The island's gastronomy is a delightful journey through the flavors of the Mediterranean, with olive oil, herbs, and local produce featuring prominently.
Active travelers can take advantage of the island's scenic landscapes by hiking or cycling through its lush countryside, offering panoramic views and a chance to connect with nature. The island's mild climate makes outdoor activities pleasant throughout much of the year.
In essence, Korčula is a microcosm of Croatian allure, offering a harmonious blend of history, culture, and the great outdoors. Its timeless charm and scenic beauty make it a destination that truly captures the heart of the Mediterranean.
