About the area
Neskowin, Oregon, is a serene coastal village that offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This hidden gem is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the lush forests of the Oregon Coast Range, providing a picturesque setting that's perfect for relaxation and outdoor adventure.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Neskowin is Proposal Rock, a large sea stack that sits majestically on the beach. At low tide, visitors can walk out to explore the rock and the tide pools that surround it, teeming with marine life. The beach itself is a beautiful stretch of sand, ideal for long walks, beachcombing, and witnessing stunning sunsets that paint the sky in vibrant hues.
For those interested in history and nature, the Neskowin Ghost Forest is a must-see. This eerie and fascinating natural wonder consists of the remnants of an ancient Sitka spruce forest, with stumps and roots estimated to be over 2,000 years old, revealed at low tide. The forest was likely buried by a tsunami and now offers a hauntingly beautiful glimpse into the past.
Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the Neskowin Beach Golf Course, a public 9-hole course that offers both a challenge and spectacular views. The course is one of the oldest on the Oregon coast and provides a unique golfing experience with its coastal breezes and natural terrain.
The surrounding area is a haven for outdoor activities. Hiking trails wind through the nearby Cascade Head, a nature conservancy area that boasts some of the best coastal views in the region. The diverse ecosystem here is home to rare plants and wildlife, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.
Neskowin also serves as a peaceful base for exploring the wider Oregon Coast. Nearby attractions include the charming towns of Pacific City and Lincoln City, where visitors can find a variety of dining options, art galleries, and shops. Additionally, the area is known for its excellent opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and whale watching.
Despite its small size, Neskowin offers a range of accommodations, from cozy bed and breakfasts to vacation rentals with ocean views, ensuring a comfortable stay for all who visit.
In essence, Neskowin, Oregon, is a destination that offers a blend of natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and quietude. It's a place where travelers can unwind, connect with nature, and experience the enchanting allure of the Oregon coast.
