One The Old School, Leiston

This unique and imaginatively designed holiday home, previously an Edwardian grammar school, was converted in 2020 to provide superb accommodation for four guests wanting a short break or holiday on the Suffolk Coast. One The Old School is really spacious and retains many original features giving it lots of character, particularly in the wonderful open plan living space with vaulted ceiling and large mullioned windows flooding the room with light. Interiors are beautifully furnished and accessorised in a chic Scandi style with touches of glamour with prints of movie stars dotted around and quirky accessories reflecting its history as a school. There’s an intimate seating area with Ercol sofa and retro 70s chair positioned in front of the impressive fireplace with wood burner, a French cherry dining table and chairs, and an incredibly well-equipped bespoke kitchen with breakfast bar, making the whole area ideal for socialising with friends and family. One of the stylish bedrooms with king size bed lies on the ground floor, conveniently next to the gorgeous modern bathroom, as well as a study which offers guests a quiet spot to do some work or simply relax and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet! An unusual galleried landing on the first floor takes you to the stunning main bedroom where a sumptuous king size sleigh bed takes pride of place beside the elegant arched window. Through the bedroom is the luxurious hotel style en-suite shower room with twin basins, WC and a huge walk-in shower with both rain and hand-held shower heads. Leiston lies less than two miles inland from the popular Suffolk Heritage Coast so this property offers a great base, with parking, from which to explore the picturesque seaside town of Aldeburgh and the magical village of Thorpeness. Treat yourself to a long walk from the nearby fishing hamlet of Sizewell, along the shingle beach to Minsmere Nature Reserve, Eastbridge with its traditional pub, or to the heathland and tea room at Dunwich. The town itself has a leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, an Edwardian film theatre showing all the current films, a fascinating museum, and a great choice of independent shops. The Space: Ground Floor Fantastic light and airy open plan double height living space. Seating area is furnished with an Ercol sofa, retro 70s chair cosy love seat, dresser housing cards and games with Smart TV on top, and occasional tables. Dining area – French Cherry table with matching chairs. Well equipped kitchen with long counter where friends/family can sit on sturdy bar stools chatting to the ‘chef’. Integrated fridge, freezer, waist height oven and microwave, ceramic hob with extractor and a dishwasher. Study Great additional space for some peace and quiet, with a sofa and couple of tables. Ground floor bedroom King size bed, bedside drawers, extra drawer unit, an easy chair and school chair giving a nod to the history of the house! Bathroom Fabulous modern bathroom. Yhr L shaped bath has a rain and hand held shower heads, WC, washbasin set in a vanity unit and a heated towel rail. Upstairs Relatively steep wooden stairs with bannister rise to the first-floor gallery (the reason why children under the age of five are not permitted to stay here). Main Bedroom The king size bed takes pride of place between bedside units. There’s masses of space for you to unpack with an enormous walk in wardrobe and a Scandi style dressing table with stool. En-Suite Luxurious hotel style shower room with twin basins, WC and a huge walk-in shower with both rain and hand-held shower heads. Outside There are two allocated parking places for guests to the right of the building and a bistro style table and chairs so you can sit outside at the front of the house. Other Things to Note: Unfortunately, children under the age of five are not permitted to stay at this house due to the risk of an accident with the galleried landing. This holiday house does not welcome dogs. There are ongoing building works going on in the adjacent building but this should be largely unintrusive to your stay at One The Old School.
