Exquisite Savannah Vacation Home In Impeccable Location
The Douglass House is a large brownstone townhouse located right in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District — North, a neighborhood that’s considered one of the prime tourist locations — if not the number-one tourist destination — on the Eastern Seaboard.
Douglass House’s Accommodations
The Douglass House isn’t just one of our favorite Savannah vacation homes — it’s one of the largest. A full-fledged house, this property sleeps six adults, featuring three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. While Douglass House retains its historical Georgian and English Regency architecture — characteristics that make the property such a nice place to stay and contribute to Savannah’s rich historical background — it functions just as well as any modern home.
Living Room
As one of our best vacation rentals Savannah GA, we decked out the Douglass House’s living room with a large flatscreen TV and enough high-end furniture to comfortably seat your whole party. Offering views of outdoors thanks to a pair of windows — making the living room a perfect place to relax and get away from the summer heat and humidity.
Kitchen
The kitchen is decked out with stainless steel appliances, including a double-door fridge with a water dispenser, gas range and stove, range hood, microwave, toaster oven, and dishwasher. The Douglass House kitchen includes many tasteful accents, such as the gold cabinet pulls, which beautifully complement this Savannah vacation rentals’ tasteful blue and white color scheme.
There is also a dining area off the kitchen for those big family meals. Featuring a large wraparound bench, it seats at least 6 comfortably. And don’t miss a beat of the game with the TV conveniently located there.
Lounge Area
The Douglass House features a cozy yet sizable lounge area complete with a dry bar. A pass-through window from the kitchen allows your bartender to be within plain view. Catch up with friends while relaxing in a comfortable conversational set of four blue club swivel chairs placed around a marble top table set under a gorgeous capiz shell light fixture.
Douglass House Comes Complete With 3 Fully Furnished Bedrooms
Bedroom No. 1
Bedroom No. 1, unarguably the best bedroom in the house, comes with a king-size bed, a flatscreen television, and a private en suite full bathroom with a glass-enclosed tile shower.
Bedroom No. 2
This bedroom shares a jack-and-jill-style bathroom along with Bedroom No. 3, making it deal for parents or grandparents who need to keep an eye on the kids, as well as for those rare couples who sleep in separate beds. Otherwise, Bedroom No. 2 features a king bed and large, flatscreen television just like Bedroom No. 1.
Bedroom No. 3
Douglass House’s last bedroom simply features a full size bed with night stands and reading lamps — arguably the most cozy bedroom in the house.
Extras
Of course, we’ve equipped this property, as one of our favorite vacation rentals Savannah GA, with a stainless-steel, over-under washer and dryer combo. Douglass House’s backyard also comes with a new deck, which leads to rustic red brick flooring. The backyard’s boundaries are fenced in with a similarly rustic, dark green fence, which features a double-door gate that’s wide enough to fit most vehicles.
Nearby Locations
Thanks to its convenient location on the northern side of Savannah’s Historic District, Douglass House is right next to countless nationally renowned attractions that are absolutely rich with cultural and historical value.
Oglethorpe Square
Oglethorpe Square is found on the second row of the five rows of squares in Savannah — namely, on the intersection of Abercorn Street and East President Street, where you’ll be staying. As one of the six original colonial squares in Savannah — and one of the total 22 squares of Savannah — Oglethorpe Square features beautiful cobbled grounds, tons of shade thanks to its dozens of mature, and old yet well-kept buildings built in breathtaking Classical Revival and Georgian architectural style.
Located on the square’s eastern side, the oldest building on Oglethorpe Square is the Owens–Thomas House. Today, the Owens–Thomas House takes the form of a historic house museum by Telfair Museums; Telfair Museums has its own history as being the very first public art museum to grace the Southeastern United States. The Owens–Thomas House, which was designated as a National Historic Landmark way, way back in 1976, is still considered one of the best examples of English Regency architecture in the entire country.
Renovations conducted on the Owens Thomas House in the 1990s found one of the best-preserved and oldest urban slave quarters in the Southeast United States. The renovations fixed the pantry and other areas of the kitchen quarters, which all feature strong hints of Gullah culture, an African American culture in the Lowcountry region that’s almost extinct today.

About the area
Savannah, Georgia, is a delightful Southern city that provides a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. It is renowned for its beautifully preserved antebellum architecture and historic districts, making it a haven for those with an interest in history. The Historic District of the city is one of the largest in the U.S., characterized by cobblestone streets adorned with oak trees draped in moss and magnificent historic residences.
The city's River Street was once the world's bustling hub for cotton exports. Today, it has transformed into a lively waterfront area brimming with shops, galleries, and restaurants situated in former cotton warehouses. Here visitors can take pleasure in breathtaking views of the Savannah River while indulging in local cuisine or shopping for distinctive souvenirs.
The cultural offerings of Savannah are equally captivating. The Telfair Museums comprise three separate sites: the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences - one of the first public museums in the South; Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters; and Jepson Center - a contemporary art center. Collectively they provide an enriching journey through art and history.
For those who love nature, Savannah's beautiful parks and squares will not disappoint. Forsyth Park is particularly popular due to its iconic fountain while Bonaventure Cemetery offers a hauntingly beautiful landscape filled with sculptures and Victorian funerary art.
Savannah also provides several beach options for visitors to enjoy. Tybee Island is just a short drive from downtown Savannah offering sandy beaches ideal for sunbathing or swimming along with a historic lighthouse that offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
For food enthusiasts, exploring Savannah's culinary scene will be an adventure as it includes everything from traditional Southern dishes to fresh seafood to innovative farm-to-table dining experiences.
In summary, Savannah presents an engaging combination of historical allure, cultural richness, natural beauty and culinary delights making it an attractive destination for all kinds of travelers.
