Comfortable, homelike and completely restored - an attractive 2 bedroom/3 bathroom apartment in the solidly authentic and unspoilt neighbourhood of Santa Giustina, peacefully located between the Fondamente Nove waterfront and the Arsenale district of Castello. Sleeping four on the third floor with lift*, Ca’ San Lorenzo 2 invites you into the privileged ranks of the true Venetian resident for the duration of your holiday, well away from the tourist throngs and souvenir stalls (yet still within walking distance of St. Mark’s) and set within an area offering some of Venice’s most memorable sensory delights.
Situated just next door to little sister apartment Ca San Lorenzo and therefore great for a group if 6/7 if taken together, this bright and inviting apartment (which also enjoys the benefit of air-conditioning**, internet connection and a washing machine) has a heavily beamed main sitting room with study area, leading past a handy bathroom with bathtub, to a modern open-plan fully fitted kitchen/dining area with rustic beams and skylights.
There are two bedrooms, both with sloping beamed ceilings and splendid wooden floors - a spacious master bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with bathtub, and a cosy twin offering a glimpse across rooftops to the cypress trees of San Michele and featuring two single beds plus an en-suite bathroom with shower.
Quietly positioned in a tranquil, sleepy area shared with a barely discernable trickle of inquisitive and well-informed visitors seeking out the ’genuine’ everyday Venice of gently flapping washing lines, sun-dappled courtyards and characterful neighbourhoods, Ca’ San Lorenzo 2 is within a stone’s throw of the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (known as ’Zanipolo’ in dialect - one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges) and on the ’right’ side of town for visiting the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.
Perhaps take time to absorb the Carpaccio paintings at the richly atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni nearby (’St Jerome and the Lion’ is a particular favourite!) or take in the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation and situated directly opposite the ’Questura’ office of Donna Leon’s fictional Commissario Guido Brunetti).
Within easy reach of a ’Punto’ supermarket near San Lorenzo and the small local shops of Salizada San Francesco and Barbaria Del Tole for an easy self-catering stay, and for doing as much, or as little, as you like!
