The garden cellar is named as such as it opens out into the garden of the City Cottage. With respect towards the local vernacular architecture this residence, the traditional timber floors and all the original materials have been restored and renovated. Luxury beds with very comfortable American mattresses, tastefully picked furniture and decor. Old restored wooden windows which have had double glazing installed and in general all the luxury amenities of the 21st century are provided. Heating, cooling and domestic hot water are provided by 100% by renewable sources of energy. A fine amenity of the Garden Cellar is its own hammam (steam bath), a complementary service to our guests. This home was designed as warm space to be inhabited by a family or group of friends with its private garden as place for rest, relaxation and play. The original use of the space was the cellar of this family home 70 years ago. Once filled with oak barrels, olive oil canisters, wine bottles and other Mediterranean delicacies, the home is now furnished primarily in solid timber with an emphasis in the shades of olive green, a tribute to the materials that once inhabited the space. Its long timber dining table a new setting to taste the long lasting traditional delicacies of Kalamata 70 years later. The Garden Cellar 100m2 (ground floor) along with the Greenhouse 80m2 (first floor) comprise the City Cottage. They are available as two independent homes and alternatively they can be booked combined as a single villa 180m2 with garden and hammam, connected by an internal soundproofed door to provide privacy and comfort. It is located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Kalamata, walking distance from the centre and the local beach. This neighborhood was once an endless orange and lemon grove, the City Cottage along with its neighboring houses has preserved the old homes and gardens to give a unique view of traditional hospitality in Kalamata and the south of Greece.
