About the area
Lincoln, Vermont, is a quintessential New England town that offers a serene escape into nature's embrace. Tucked away in the Green Mountains, Lincoln is particularly enchanting for those who appreciate the outdoors and the simple pleasures of a rural landscape.
The town is a gateway to some of Vermont's most beautiful natural attractions. The Lincoln Gap Road, which is one of the highest mountain passes in Vermont, provides stunning panoramic views and is a favorite among cyclists and motorists alike. In the winter, this road becomes a trail for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, offering a peaceful winter wonderland experience.
Hiking enthusiasts will find Lincoln to be a perfect base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The town is close to the Long Trail, the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the United States, which traverses the main ridge of the Green Mountains. This offers hikers challenging ascents, such as Mount Abraham, one of Vermont's five 4,000-foot peaks, with rewarding vistas at the summit.
For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, Lincoln is dotted with small farms and orchards where visitors can engage in berry picking or apple picking depending on the season. The local farmers' markets also provide a taste of Vermont's fresh produce and artisanal products, from maple syrup to hand-crafted cheeses.
The town itself exudes a sense of community and rustic charm. The Lincoln General Store is a hub where locals and visitors mingle, offering everything from homemade baked goods to essential supplies. The sense of stepping back in time is palpable, with historic buildings and a lack of commercial development preserving the town's authentic character.
Lincoln is also a draw for those interested in the arts. The town has a vibrant community of artists and craftspeople, and their studios are often open to the public, providing a glimpse into the creative process and the opportunity to purchase unique, locally-made items.
In the fall, Lincoln becomes a prime destination for leaf peepers. The foliage transforms the landscape into a tapestry of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows, making it an ideal spot for photography or simply enjoying the colors of the season.
In essence, Lincoln, Vermont, is a destination that offers tranquility, natural beauty, and a taste of traditional New England life. It's a place where visitors can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern life and reconnect with nature and community.
